Shapes

The spheres have been exploring and discussing how and why different shapes fit together and then creating tiling patterns with them.

Yesterday we created tiles with patterns and today we designed our own tiles and then identified the shapes within the tiles and the properties of the shapes.

Outstanding Teamwork and Engineering

Today a group of P3’s decided to challenge themselves and see how big they could build a tower that would stand strong.

At first they build a very impressive building on the tough tray but then they wanted to go BIGGER so they decided to start on the floor the next time!

I think the last count it made it up to 18 floors!!! Great team effort P3!

Hurricane Survival Kit

This afternoon we were learning all about hurricanes. We looked at maps and learnt where the equator lies and that the worst ever hurricanes have all occurred in places that lie near the equator. We had a look at photographs of places that had been hit by a hurricane and we then created our own hurricane survival kit….what essentials would we take with us if we had to quickly evacuate from a hurricane.

We then looked at another disaster which is currently happening right now in the world with the bush fires in Australia and we looked back at our chosen survival kits to see if the people in Australia would choose similar items and we agreed they would.

Buddy was Kidnapped!!!

This morning we came into class as normal but we couldn’t find Buddy anywhere!!! We searched high and low but no sign of him.

Suddenly, an envelope was slid under the door and there was a loud knocking on the door….we opened the envelope and inside there was a note from the kidnapper…

We decided the first thing to do was to compile a list of suspects from using our inference skills. We looked at the objects in the photograph and decided who we knew had some of the objects.

Then we created questions to help eliminate suspects.

Then it was time to commence our interviews!!!

First we went to Miss Morgan but she was quickly eliminated because she doesn’t have a walkie talkie.

Then we went along to P5 to find Miss Macrae

Miss Macrae was also eliminated because she has a pink water bottle and not a clear and black like the one in the photo.

Then Mr Maxwell was our next suspect however he didn’t have his  nails painted blue so he was eliminated too…

Then it was time to interview the management team….they were our chief suspects and we were pretty sure one of them was guilty…however we were wrong, none of them have water bottles so they were innocent.

Finally we were down to one set of suspects…..THE OFFICE LADIES…..which one was the culprit we asked ourselves….

Ethan asked all the questions and we scanned the office and finally the suspect was caught…..MRS SANDERSON the office manager!!!!

Buddy has now been returned safe and well to the P3/2 classroom and we now know to keep an extra close eye on Mrs Sanderson!!!!

Christmas Fun Week

This week we have taken part in lots of Christmas activities such as:

  • using clay to make our own Christmas tree decorations
  • We made eco friendly reindeer dust (no plastic or glitter) so we are all set for Christmas Eve

  • Took part in a Christmas quiz!

Construction Area

This week we had a new addition to the construction lego…..tin cans! We have been using the tin cans to build towers and then use our maths skills to measure and record the height of the towers. The competition is on to see who can build the tallest tower!
