Planet order art

Yesterday afternoon we continued our learning within the new science topic about sun, moon and stars, We have been learning about the planets and we can now identify all 8 planets in the correct order from the sun. We used oil pastels to create a drawing of the planets and the order in which they come and the results were fantastic. We loved using the oil pastels and learning how to “build” upon each colour to create eye catching colours.

What a creation….

Today 3 of the class built this incredible igloo in the open area. They showed fantastic teamwork skills in building this igloo. Luke explained that he managed to get the roof on the building by building from the inside instead of the outside.

Mr Weir was so impressed with their building work that he gave each of them a GOLDEN HOUSE POINT!!!!

Well done Chloe, Olivia and Luke!

Thursday morning maths

This morning the p3’s have been very busy completing maths work. Some of the boys and girls have been learning how to carry out surveys, record the answers using tally marks and then displaying the data in bar graphs.

Some of the other boys and girls have been working on their 5 times table using concrete materials.

Fantastic effort p3!

Scots Literacy Week

We kicked started Scots literacy week this week by reading The Gruffalo in Scots. We compared the words in the story to the version written in English and we loved learning about all the scots words such a “clook” for claws and “plook” for spot.

We then learned a well known action dance in Scots, watch the video to see how we got on!

Shapes

The spheres have been exploring and discussing how and why different shapes fit together and then creating tiling patterns with them.

Yesterday we created tiles with patterns and today we designed our own tiles and then identified the shapes within the tiles and the properties of the shapes.

Outstanding Teamwork and Engineering

Today a group of P3’s decided to challenge themselves and see how big they could build a tower that would stand strong.

At first they build a very impressive building on the tough tray but then they wanted to go BIGGER so they decided to start on the floor the next time!

I think the last count it made it up to 18 floors!!! Great team effort P3!

Hurricane Survival Kit

This afternoon we were learning all about hurricanes. We looked at maps and learnt where the equator lies and that the worst ever hurricanes have all occurred in places that lie near the equator. We had a look at photographs of places that had been hit by a hurricane and we then created our own hurricane survival kit….what essentials would we take with us if we had to quickly evacuate from a hurricane.

We then looked at another disaster which is currently happening right now in the world with the bush fires in Australia and we looked back at our chosen survival kits to see if the people in Australia would choose similar items and we agreed they would.
