Organs

This morning we continued our learning about the human body and we investigated the organs.

We learned the names of the vital organs within our bodies and we looked at what their job was.  Did you know the small intestine was up to 6M long?!?!?!?

Sustainable Lego Jewellery

Yesterday afternoon we worked with the P5’s to make our own piece of lego jewellery. We had to choose 5 pieces of lego (taking into consideration colour co-ordination), then choose a piece of wood or plastic, create a design on the plastic using oil pastels and water based paint and then build the jewellery!

The final results were cat walk worthy!!!

RSPB visit

Yesterday we had a visit from RSPB. We learnt all about the work they do and then we went out with them on a mini beast hunt. We also learnt how to look for evidence of wild life such as food trails, homes and animal poo!!!

We learnt why birds tap the floor with their feet…..to bring worms to the surface to eat them to we had a go at “calling worms”.

The Human Body

For science week and in preparation for our school trip and workshop to the science centre next week we have been learning about the human body.

We have a zone set up in the classroom as you will see below to allow for our own investigations about the human body by looking at the x-rays….

We learnt about the skeleton and the names of some of the vital bones in the body. We learnt about the spine and how the spine controls all the movements in the body.

We learnt that bones are also there to protect the organs in our body such as our brain. We then took part in a group task…

We were put into groups of 3 and each group were given an egg. The egg was to be our brain and we had to build our own skull to protect our “brain” from cracking and breaking if we had a fall (dropped from a height!).

Have a look at how we got on…..

Egg drop time…

Well done to 2 groups who’s “brains” survived!!!

World Book Day

WE were a day late to World Book day because we were waiting on the arrival of the new books to the school…..so today we managed to get hold of the boxes of beautiful of books which the school have just received.

We loved choosing the books that we were going to read and then we found a comfortable seat and enjoyed some silent reading.

After we read the books we had a class discussion and here are some of our book reviews:

Liam – The Day the Crayons Quit

“I would say it is a pretty good book because I like all the colours and the green crayon is very sensible because he is kind. The yellow and the orange crayons were fighting over who is the real colour of the sun. I think they are both the colours of the sun! I would recommend the book to other people!”

Evie – Whit the Clockleddy Heard

“This is a book in Scots and I loved it! I liked all the detail put into it and I really love the story about all these animals who have a good plan. I also really like the pictures in the book, they are amazing!”

Ella – Exploring Emotions

“This book was all about emotions such as happy, sleepy, angry and sad emotions. It taught me that is doesn’t matter if you lose again, it’s fine beacuse it’s only a game.”

Elise – Giraffes Can’t Dance

“I didn’t finish my book but I really like what I read and the giraffe is really funny and he just wants to dance!”

Olive – Supertato

“I thought it was really good and active. The story was about an evil pea who escaped from the freezer and supertato had to save the day with help from his friends. The evil pea tried to make him mash potato!!!!”

Harris – Supertato Veggies Assemble

“My book was also about the evil pea who let all the frozen peas escape! He unfroze the peas to make them all escape and run about and cause trouble!”

Partitioning

During mental maths today the P3 boys and girls were learning all about partitioning numbers which helps us to calculate totals. We used concrete materials to help us visually understand how to partition numbers up to HTU!

Data analysis with P2

Over the last week the P2 boys and girls have been learning how to conduct surveys, how to record the information using tally marks, then use a range of different ways to display the information such as Venn diagrams and bar graphs.
