Maths Week

We had lots of fun last week for Maths Week.

P2 helped create a game for the maths carnival on Friday afternoon. Oscar suggested a maths themed escape room which was overwhelmingly voted for by the other children. P2 helped make questions that would reveal codes to unlock three padlocks and escape.

We enjoyed exploring all the different games created by each class at the maths carnival.

P2 also took part in a maths relay race with the P2/3 class. They worked in small teams to solve problems and race for the next question.

Sensory Play

The children engaged in sensory play last week. They explored activities using the sensory information of sight, touch, smell and sound. This kind of play supports language development as children create stories and explain what they’re doing. It develops fine motor skills as they work with their hands and fingers. And, it allows them to problem solve, finding solutions independently as well as working with their friends.

Thank you to the children who acted as our fabulous photographers!

Will it float?

We have been exploring different kinds of transportation and how these meet our needs and wants. The children have been developing an interest in boats and floating. They have been testing different materials and designs to see what floats and then modifying their boat models.

P2 Learning Event

Thank you to everybody who could make it to our learning event, it was fantastic to share our learning with you.

Children explored our transitory art station with their parents.

We practiced our literacy and fine motor skills by making word bracelets with letter beads and string.

We challenged what we could make using our lego.

And, we searched for words hidden in sand to create sentences.

Thank you all for a fantastic morning.

Transport

This week we have been looking at different kinds of transport and discussing why me might use it. The children have enjoyed building, drawing, painting and discussing different kinds of transportation.

‘The bottom makes air and it floats. You could use it to go over the sea, it could take you a long way, you could take it to Pakistan’ – Zainab

‘It’s a hover train. It uses magnets. When the magnets are the right way round, it will get stuck. When they’re the wrong way, it hovers’ – Spencer

Rajath and Oscar built individual planes, they then combined their pieces to create something knew. ‘It’s called the Ultramegatron.’

‘It uses the wings to move’ – Theo
