Using Autumn to Enhance Learning

This week we used natural resources from outdoors to enhance the children’s learning opportunities.

Conkers

The children were introduce to the traditional game of conkers. This experience developed the children’s hand-eye coordination, which will positively impact their mark making skills.

Leaves

During their outdoor day some children collected leaves and decided to display them in the nursery. They made leave bunting and while creating it they developed their one to one counting and  an understanding of adding one more to an amount.

Maths Week – Workforce Wednesday

To give the children an understanding of Maths being a gateway into many career paths and opportunities, we invited parents, carers and relatives into the nursery to speak with the children about how maths ‘is everywhere’ and is relevant to day-to-day life and work. Thank you to all of our volunteers.

Maths Week – Think It Out Thursday

As a home learning activity children were encouraged to make a ‘Thinking Cap’ to evidence their learning, the caps displayed the children’s understanding of maths, such as the numbers they know or the shapes they recognise. During the nursery sessions children were overheard sharing their cap with one another explaining all of the numbers, patterns and shapes on it.

Maths Week – Fun Friday

Throughout the course of Maths Week the nursery children have been visiting Netherlee Primary School to go on a shape/number hunt. This was to reinforce that maths is everywhere and we use it in everyday life. During their visits some children were invited into classroom, some even saw a juggling mathematician and others became judges in a hat making competition!
