Language

During our Literacy and English lessons we explore language in a number of different ways. Today there were groups exploring different sounds in words, creating  character profiles, using ICT to sort real and nonsense words and some children relaxing with their favourite book.

Storytelling

In P1.1 we love creating and telling stories and today we had fun trying something new!  We used the Story Board game to create our stories. By choosing cards that showed different aspects of a story we had to think on our feet to create stories that make sense.

This is one of the stories that we started:

When I was happy I went to the beach and saw a lizard. Suddenly it turned dark! By Sali

There are lots of budding authors in P1.1.

Author Visit – Chris Riddell

This morning we had a visit from Chris Riddell who came to share his new book with us: Once Upon a Wild Wood. Chris is both the Author and Illustrator of his books.

While we were coming into the hall he drew a picture of the children sitting in the front row!

Then he read us an extract of his new book. The main character is Little Green Raincape, she is on her way to a party and the story tells the adventures of her journey.

We really enjoyed hearing the story!!!

Phonics

Since starting P1 we have been learning the individual sounds that letters make and developing our skills in writing them.

This week we will start putting those sounds together to read and create words. We use the Jolly Phonics program and this short clip lets you hear the different letter sounds that we will be learning.

Some of the activities that we will be working on this week include:

So far we have learned the letters s, a and t. This week we will add p, i and n.
