The Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy

We took part in the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy project. It is a forest conservation project which is committed to raising an awareness of the value of forests and saving them for future generations as well as planting new forests. This is what we did with the help of our older buddies. We planted oak, elder, cherry and roman trees ๐ŸŒฒ

KAPLA

Kapla is our new wooden construction.

The KAPLA concept is simple. Each block is simply placed one on top of the other. The blocks are held in place by gravity and balance alone.

Pupils are free to build, create and experiment by using their own imagination.

ย

We built a table and chair.

Look at my Christmas tree.

This is a KAPLA shop.

ย

We built a house.

So far KAPLA has stimulated team work and cooperation. We look forward to observing the children grow in confidence and ability with KAPLA.

Numberlines

We have been enjoying adding with concrete materials and today we started to explore numberlines. There are different styles of numberlines in our playground and we had great fun jumping our addition calculations.

After we had explored the numberlines outside we tried using our mini numberlines inside.

Due to our experience of learning outdoors we were confident adding using our smaller numberlines.

Trip to the Cinema

Today we went on our first school trip to the cinema ๐ŸŽฅ

We were going to watch ‘Paddington 2’ however, due to a technical glitch we watched ‘The Grinch’ instead. It was super and made us giggle.

Our favourite scenes from the movie:

โ€˜I liked it when the Grinch stole all the presents.โ€™ Daisy

โ€˜I liked the part when the Grinch changed his mind and liked Christmas.โ€™ Sali

โ€˜The best part was when he gave all the presents back.โ€™ Caleb

โ€˜I liked the part when the Grinch was dancing with his underpants on.โ€™ Ben

โ€˜My favourite part was when the dog fell into the snow.โ€™ Ayana

โ€˜I liked it when the Grinch fell down the cliff.โ€™ Callum

Symmetry

We have been further exploring symmetry in the treehouse. First we began by identifing symmetry in the environment. Next we made symmetrical patterns using concrete materials.

Then the teacher showed us how to cut symmetrical crocodiles, birds and butterflies and we decorated them.

We felt very proud of our creativity.

We also matched symmetrical shapes and used smart pals to complete pictures to make them symmetrical.

PE

Today Primary 1.1 joined Primary 1.3 in the gym hall.

We listened very carefully to the instructions.

We had to move in different directions and in different styles. We worked well together and demonstrated good sportsmanship qualities.

The Library

On alternate weeks half of our class visit the library and today was the first day that the children could choose a book to take home with them.

We had lots of fun exploring all the different books in our library and selecting our favourite to take home and share with family.

The other half of the class will be choosing their books next week. Books should be kept for two weeks and brought back in on a Friday. Happy reading!

Welcoming a Baby

Today Adrienne from our local Baptist church came to talk to us about welcoming a baby. We all thought about the different things that babies need to grow and thrive.ย Then we heard about the way babies are welcomed by the Church.
