ERIC

Every week we have numerous ERIC ( Everyone Reading In Class) sessions. We love relaxing with a book and sharing it with a friend or a teddy that likes to be read to.

Music

Today in Music we were learning our school song:

‘We feel safe at Mearns Primary, we make sure we’re all happy. We all learn and work in a team, respecting one another.

Followed by a 16 beat pause.

‘We all learn and work in a team, respecting one another.’

(Sing to the tune of Coulters Candy)

Time and Money

Today we have been exploring o’clock times on both analogue and digital clocks. To reinforce our knowledge we played lots of different time games.

We have also been learning about the different coins and we really enjoyed sorting a big pile of money!

Nick Butterworth – Author Focus

We thoroughly enjoyed finding out more about Julia Donaldson and reading her wonderful stories.

Having a space in our room to focus on Authors and Illustrators helps to develop our reading, writing and thinking skills. Through exposure to different Authors and Illustrators, we hope to build a deeper attachment to books and establish a room filled with readers.

We are moving on to cleberating the work of Nick Butterworth:

Dinosaurs!

As part of our planning the children told us that they would like to learn all about dinosaurs. To support their learning we have set up some new activities!

Number

The wind made it tricky to do maths outside today so instead we went on a journey to the treehouse. There we worked on:

Counting

The number before

Sequencing numbers

Hopefully we can take our learning outdoors later as we love learning in nature.

Storytelling

In P1.1 we love creating and telling stories and today we had fun trying something new!  We used the Story Board game to create our stories. By choosing cards that showed different aspects of a story we had to think on our feet to create stories that make sense.

This is one of the stories that we started:

When I was happy I went to the beach and saw a lizard. Suddenly it turned dark! By Sali

There are lots of budding authors in P1.1.
