We have been learning our sounds through the use of different games and activities:
Building Part 2
To further develop our construction area we have added some new and exciting materials. There are identification badges, design forms, an order book, books on buildings and photos of buildings from around the world. We are looking forward to designing  and creating our own buildings today.
Numbers
We are learning to read, write and count to ten. These are just a few of our favourite activities.
Planting
In science we are exploring plants with Mr Tyler. We already knew that to grow successfully plants need:
- light
- water
- food
Together we planted Runner Bean seeds. First we filled our cups with soil.
Then we put our seeds into the soil.
We then watered our seeds carefully.
Finally we placed our planted seeds on the window ledge.
We are looking forward to our plants growing.
Exploring through Play
Sounds on the Ground
To work on our writing we took chalk outside and wrote our sounds on the ground. Look how well we are doing with our letter formation and knowledge of sounds!
Buildings
Another request from the children was to learn about buildings and how they are made. This has led us to create a construction site within the classroom for the children to explore the building process personally. We will also be learning about how buildings are designed and built in the real world.
This is one of our current learning through play spaces that we will develop alongside the interests of the children.
We are looking to invite visitors from the world of architecture and building in to speak to the children about the process from design to completion.
Planning
The children have settled very well into P1.1 and they have been keen to share with us the things they enjoyed doing at nursery and what they are looking forward to learning in school.
Miss Khan and Mrs Sobocinski work in partnership with the children to plan the learning  the class will undertake. As you can see we had an interesting range of suggestions!
Taking these suggestions on board, we have made our play cube into a Police Station as a way to help us start learning about different uniforms.
I wonder what else we will create in our classroom?
Author Visit – Chris Riddell
This morning we had a visit from Chris Riddell who came to share his new book with us: Once Upon a Wild Wood. Chris is both the Author and Illustrator of his books.
While we were coming into the hall he drew a picture of the children sitting in the front row!
Then he read us an extract of his new book. The main character is Little Green Raincape, she is on her way to a party and the story tells the adventures of her journey.
We really enjoyed hearing the story!!!
