Book-tacular Trip to The Edinburgh Book Festival!

Last week, on Tuesday, P3, P5 and P7 went to The Edinburgh Book  Festival. It was book-tacular :). P3 came with us to see author and illustrator Marcia Williams, who let a few kids from different schools join into a play of the Tempest. Emmen was Miranda! The only bad thing was that the bus ride was quite long but we talked and played. We also saw The Kelpies. The book shop was brilliant and there were lots of books.

Getting started

DSC00196sDSC00197sDSC00198sThis week was all about getting started and getting everything ready for the year ahead. We did a spelling and a comprehension test but apart from that it was mostly fun activities. We also started our class charter and we chose a ‘Finding Dory’ theme. We spent a long time doing art and talking about our charter but we managed to finish it. This year we have a new girl in our class called Daniella who is very nice. Our table names are quite strange and random. Our class did a vote and the Pokémon theme won. The tables are called: Jigglypuff, Pikachu, Oddish and Flareon.

Class Trip

On Thursday 26th of May our class walked to a charity called Cosgrove Care which is in Shawlands.
We went because we are learning about charities. We were allowed to bring something from home to donate to the charity. We had to walk all the way to Cosgrove Care and back. When we got there everyone got to price one item which they brought. We stuck a label with the price on it. I put a label on a dress and Abigail put a label on a pack of pencils. At the end of our visit we all got to choose a free toy. I got Top Trumps and Shakira got a small book. Then unfortunately we had walk back to school but by the time we got there it was home time!

Pantomime

Lion king

On Wednesday morning, the whole school went down to the hall because there was a pantomime which was called the Lion King.

We thought it was scary, funny, happy , sad and joyful.
In the beginning Mufasa, the king was singing and all the animals were coming and bowing to Mufasa.
They got a teddy to pretend to be Simba and then when he was growing up there was a boy acting as him.
All the characters what we saw in the Pantomime were:
• Simba
• Nala
• Scar
• Pumba
• Timon
• Hieena
• Zazu
• Mufasa
• Baboom
We loved the pantomime because it was very funny.

Health Week

Last week was Health Week and all of the school dressed up in their P. E kit. We did lots of fun activities such as karate , body attack , running and cricket . We also had a policeman visiting us to talk to us about internet bullying. Our favourite sport of the week was body attack because you had to keep going and you could never stop. DSC00135
We also did activities for Israel’s Independence Day which primary six made. There were some activities inside and outside. The activities ranged from sports, decorating biscuits and face painting. We also completed a treasure hunt with a direction game on a chequer board. Last week was a very fun week for us!

Daffodil Tea

DSC00125
Just before the Spring break we held a Daffodil Tea to raise money for Marie Curie(a charity that helps people with terminal illnesses).
Before the Daffodil Tea, Primary 4 and 5 did some preparation. Primary 4 made daffodil pinwheels and created acrostic poems. Then after that, Primary 4 and 5 were split in to 2 groups. One group started off by making cupcakes and in the other class we made cards to sell. DSC00114 DSC00121
The following day we made the icing and a daffodil for each fairy cake as well as making decorations for the tables and the hall.
On the Wednesday of the Daffodil Tea, Primary 4 and 5 performed an assembly and read out daffodil poems. Afterwards, all the children went to greet their parents and bought things from the stalls. At the end of the day, we made bird feeders with our parents. It was rather tricky! The Daffodil Tea was a very fun.
We raised a lot of money, £157.50!Yva who came in to speak to us about the Marie Curie charity will be coming to school to collect our donations.

Class Novel

Last week we started reading our new class novel, Matilda by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
During our reading lesson, we all created literal, inferential and evaluative questions for a partner. Literal questions are questions which the answer is in the text. Inferential questions means you need to read between the lines and you also have to look for clues. Evaluative questions have no wrong or right answer and they are your opinion.
We have also been learning about similes and metaphors. A simile is a phrase which has the word ‘like’ or ‘as’ when comparing two things. A metaphor is a phrase which doesn’t have like or as but it still compares two things. For example, ‘your daughter is a princess’. This doesn’t actually mean she’s a princess but she is being compared to one.
We tried to find as many metaphors as we could in Matilda.

Masterclasses

Every Friday afternoon, Primary 4 have been completing a master class. The first four weeks we did baking.
On the first week we made flapjacks. We used syrup, butter, oats and sugar.
The next Friday we made rice crispy cakes. We used rice crispies, butter and syrup.
The next Friday we made pizza! We used pitta, pizza sauce, peppers, mushrooms, oregano and sweetcorn.
The last week of baking was cheese scone. We used self raising flour, milk and cheese.

Jessica’s favourite week was when we made flapjacks. Sania’s favourite week was when we made rice crispy cakes.

Woodwork
Last week Primary 4 started woodwork with Mrs Booker. We designed miniature furniture. That is basically furniture which is small. Mrs Booker then gave us a piece of paper where you could draw what you are going to make.
Sania: I’m making a bed and a table if I can make it!
Jessica: I am making a table and a chair if I have time!
Mrs Booker showed us all the equipment which we are going to use next Friday. The type of wood which we are going to use is balsa wood. That is wood which is very bendy and feels like foam.

Times tables

Recently we have been learning our times tables with our teacher. Some people know most of their times tables. We earn three tickets if we do well if we don’t practise enough then we have to try the next day. You have to recite the tables forwards, backwards and answer random questions!
As well as winning tickets you also get a certificate.
We are trying very hard to reach the nine times table.

World Book Day

WBD2016_yellow_rightdown[1]

On Thursday 3rd of March, Primary 4 celebrated World Book Day. (It always takes place on the first Thursday of March). The U.K and Ireland celebrate World Book Day by thinking about all the books that authors have written.
We made a new version of our favourite book . First we changed the title of the book. Next we all designed a new front cover. Then we created our own blurb.
Did you know that David Walliam’s hero is Roald Dahl?
