Class Novel

Last week we started reading our new class novel, Matilda by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
During our reading lesson, we all created literal, inferential and evaluative questions for a partner. Literal questions are questions which the answer is in the text. Inferential questions means you need to read between the lines and you also have to look for clues. Evaluative questions have no wrong or right answer and they are your opinion.
We have also been learning about similes and metaphors. A simile is a phrase which has the word ‘like’ or ‘as’ when comparing two things. A metaphor is a phrase which doesn’t have like or as but it still compares two things. For example, ‘your daughter is a princess’. This doesn’t actually mean she’s a princess but she is being compared to one.
We tried to find as many metaphors as we could in Matilda.
