Kirkhill Primary (P3a.1 & P3a.2)
Welcome to our Class Blog. Our teachers are Miss Carrick & Mrs Knox (P3a.1) and Miss Jones (P3a.2) :)
We have been learning about symmetry this week. We have looked at symmetry in real-life, in shapes, patterns and pictures.
We learned about healthy eating, food groups and snack swap ideas.
Please complete the research activity from your homework grid – Choose an 80s icon to research and create a poster or PowerPoint about them. We would love the children to prepare a short solo talk about their icon to go along side their slides/posters etc. This is due on Thursday 6th Feb please.
Could the homework jotters please be sent in this Friday as next week is a consolidation and assessment week and we will update them.
Thank you 🙂
Such a busy few days learning about conjunctions, using our Big Cat books and working on our ve sound.
We’re working on a couple of key skills this week and if you would like to support your child at home you could do the following.
Mental maths – adding/subtracting in tens e.g. 17 + 30, count on in tens 27, 37, 47. Extension – 17 + ? = 50 count on in tens to 47 then add on the 3 units = 33. Working backwards, do the opposite — 12 + ? = 20, mentally calculate 20-12 to get the answer.
Literacy – Grammar to further improve writing skills. Ask your child to come up with a sentence using conjunctions; and/but. E.g. It is raining outside but I don’t have a jacket. Extension – use because, while, so.
Thank you!!
Mrs Knox & Miss O’Neill
The boys and girls have loved exploring some of the toys you sent in, thank you. Next week we’re looking at technology and inventions.
All pupils were sent home with the new grids in their homework jotters yesterday. The phonics sounds are all dated so you know what week we are on. Please keep the researching an 80’s icon for the two week homework project in February.
N.B. P3a.2 – Miss O’Neill is still having technical issues getting access to our blog, we hope to resolve this soon.
Thank you, as always, for your support.
A warm welcome back to school, it has been a lovely start despite the weather ☔. We have been busy setting goals for 2020, introducing right angles in maths and starting our new topic, the 80’s. If anyone has any 80’s toys, games, annuals etc we would be so grateful if we could borrow them to help bring the topic to life.
Exciting day tomorrow with church in the morning and the party in the afternoon. Miss Edminston is more than happy for the children to wear their party clothes all day if they wish. Please send in an extra wee snack to have during the party.
Wishing everyone one a very merry Christmas and a fab 2020! 🎅🏻🎄
We spent a lovely couple of lessons this week learning about weighing. They unanimously decided they prefer digital scales! We then put our skills to the test by carefully weighing out our ingredients to make shortbread. They were so good they could they could be on Junior Bake Off. Well done 👌.
