P4 have been busy writing expanded sentences about this gorgeous image of the girl and her dragon. We added information to the sentences the teacher gave us to make them more interesting.
Literacy – Sentence Expansion
Today we have been working on expanding our sentences. Â This is a great activity to try out at home using your favourite books. Take a simple sentence and add more information to it. You can also try using different conjunctions to expand your sentences.

Literacy – The Dragon Machine
Yesterday we began reading The Dragon Machine. We realised that there were lots of dragons hiding around the school so we went on a hunt to find them. We had to describe where we found them and what they looked like. Today we used the prepositions, adjectives, alliteration and similes we collected to write sentences about them. Check out our ideas.
Literacy – The Lost Words
We are working hard on publishing our spell songs inspired by The Lost Words.
Marsailidh – We made an exploding book and have been jumbling letters to name animals and plants.
Literacy – Vocabulary
We have been investigating the fantastic vocabulary in our new Big Cats books. Open the files below to see some of the words we have been working on. Challenge yourself and try to use the words we have discussed in your personal writing and in conversations.

Outdoor Learning – Scavenger Hunt
Today we went on an autumn scavenger hunt. We were looking closely at the items we found so that we can write our own spell songs inspired by Robert Macfarlane’s Lost Words.
Lucy – it was fun but it was hard to find some of the items. We enjoyed looking closely and ticking the items off our list.
Literacy – Elf Road
Today we came into the class and saw this amazing feast! We read the story Elf Road and described what might be on the table at a feast. We had to use adjectives and commas to write our super sentences.
Ruby – We had lots of fun writing about these amazing things.
Charlotte – We had a sheet of colour adjectives to help us.
