Sport Relief

Here we are celebrating  having completed our Sport Relief activities outside.  (Some of our furry friends are celebrating too!)  We had great fun shooting baskets, tossing beanbags and beating goalies.  We even had some sunshine!  Thanks to all who sent in donations – your support is much appreciated.  Thanks also to the Sports Leaders – they worked hard all day  to make sure that everyone had lots of fun while raising money for a good cause.

School Trip-Tall Ship

Primary 4b thoroughly enjoyed their school trip on the Tall Ship yesterday. Firstly, we learnt about Morse Code with experts telling us how Morse Code improved communication between ships. We learnt some of the Morse Code patterns for each letter, and had a go at using the machine.

Next, we had to be marine archaeologist and excavate items found, using special gloves and a brush. We had to mark the co ordinates of each item and work out what the item would be used for and which class of passenger would use it.

After lunch, we had the opportunity to look around the Riverside museum and investigate the old street.

We had a super time.

3D shapes

In Maths, we have been revising  3D shape.  We are already confident with square-based pyramids and triangular prisms, so we were set a new challenge. We made tetrahedrons with Miss Bruce, focusing on vertices and edges.

Little scientists

This afternoon, we enjoyed investigating how electricity can be conducted through salty water.

Visit from the Dogs’ Trust

Here are  a couple of pictures from our Dogs’ Trust visit.  We learned a lot about the things you need to think about before you decide to get a dog and how to keep your dog healthy and happy when you do get it.

We really enjoyed the visit.  Some of us were hoping that there would be a real dog to pat, but it probably wouldn’t be a good idea because not everyone likes to get close to dogs and some dogs might be a bit scared if they saw so many children!

Titanic Sketches

We have been using our laptops to look at paintings of Titanic by the artist Ken Marschall and comparing his realistic style with paintings by other artists.  His paintings are so detailed that some of us thought they were photographs at first!  We also like how he paints light and shadows.

We thought we would have a go too.  Here are some pictures of us sketching our own versions of Titanic while listening to some of the music that was actually played on the ship.  Tomorrow we’ll start painting!

Fairtrade Fortnight

Dear Parent/Carer,

Our Fairtrade Pupil Group members have been working very hard to promote Fairtrade Fortnight which starts on Monday 24 February and finishes on Sunday 8 March 2020.

As preparation for Fairtrade Fortnight the Primary 4 pupil group members conducted a survey to find out which treats children would like to buy at the tuck shop we are planning to run. A subgroup of Primary 5s created posters to advertise the tuck shop around the school. The older members of the pupil group will be giving a speech and showing a PowerPoint to the rest of the school to raise awareness of Fairtrade. The Primary 7 members created a rota for the tuck shop (see below).

We would like to invite children to bring in cash to buy a Fairtrade treat from the tuck shop. We will be offering Geobake chocolate chip cookies, a variety of Divine chocolate bars and Fairtrade Jellybeans. The tuck shop will be running from Monday 2nd March until Friday 6th March. All items are £1.10 so please send your child with the correct amount if possible.

  • Monday 2nd March – Primary 1 and Primary 2
  • Tuesday 3rd March – Primary 3
  • Wednesday 4th March – Primary 4 and Primary 5
  • Thursday 5th March – Primary 6
  • Friday 6th March – Primary 7
