Fairtrade Fortnight

Dear Parent/Carer,

Our Fairtrade Pupil Group members have been working very hard to promote Fairtrade Fortnight which starts on Monday 24 February and finishes on Sunday 8 March 2020.

As preparation for Fairtrade Fortnight the Primary 4 pupil group members conducted a survey to find out which treats children would like to buy at the tuck shop we are planning to run. A subgroup of Primary 5s created posters to advertise the tuck shop around the school. The older members of the pupil group will be giving a speech and showing a PowerPoint to the rest of the school to raise awareness of Fairtrade. The Primary 7 members created a rota for the tuck shop (see below).

We would like to invite children to bring in cash to buy a Fairtrade treat from the tuck shop. We will be offering Geobake chocolate chip cookies, a variety of Divine chocolate bars and Fairtrade Jellybeans. The tuck shop will be running from Monday 2nd March until Friday 6th March. All items are £1.10 so please send your child with the correct amount if possible.

  • Monday 2nd March – Primary 1 and Primary 2
  • Tuesday 3rd March – Primary 3
  • Wednesday 4th March – Primary 4 and Primary 5
  • Thursday 5th March – Primary 6
  • Friday 6th March – Primary 7

Brown Trout Artwork

Hello! Check out P5b’s fantastic artwork that is now displayed around our classroom and school.

We were inspired by the artist Derek De Young who specialises in Fishy artwork!

The children worked in teams of 2-4 to create their own unique version of an adult Brown Trout swimming through the river.  Each group chose what media, paper and colours they wanted. We’re very pleased how they turned out 🙂

2 week Homework Project

Hello,

We have decided as a class to create a piece of art work related to our topic ‘Clyde in the Classroom’.

Please choose over the next 2 weeks to make one of the following or if you have a different idea related to our topic, we would love to see that too!

  • Model of the River Clyde
  • Model of a Glasgow Landmark
  • Model of a Brown Trout
  • Life Cycle of a Brown Trout

Use any media you wish and have fun! (junk modelling, papier-mâché, clay etc)

If you would prefer to do a PowerPoint presentation to showcase something you have learned/ researched for Clyde in the Classroom you may do that instead of a piece of art work.

Due date Friday 28th February 🙂

Thank you, Miss McLeod.

Alevin Update

Hello,

Today we were very lucky to have Marissa from the Science Centre in to check the progress of our trout eggs. We have now hatched all of our trout eggs into Alevins.

Marissa praised our class for doing so well with our care, dedication and responsbility for our class pets! We have been monitoring the water temperature 4 times a day, checking the water level is above the pump and checking that our tank is clean for the Alevins to grow.

We connected a USB microscope to view the Alevins up close! The Alevins were safely collected into a petri dish and viewed under the magnification lens. We could see the blood veins and the mouth of the Alevin opening and closing. Some of our Alevins were very fast swimmers, zooming around on the screen.

It was awesome. Congrats again p5b we are super scientists. (see photo below)
