Pongal

A huge thank you to Siddharth for teaching us about the festival of Pongal today. We really enjoyed his presentation and were impressed with how confident and knowledgeable he was.

If anyone else would like to share their knowledge of a religious festival with us then just let Mrs Smart know.

Scotland Street School trip

Today we visited Scotland Street School museum and “enjoyed” experiencing life as a pupil at a Victorian school in 1884 but are very glad to be back in 2020.

P6 know how to party!

We had lots of fun at our stage party yesterday. We danced, played musical statues,  corners and the fastest game of pass-the-parcel ever known. But best of all we wrapped up our teacher head to toe in Christmas wrapping paper!

P6 party

Our Christmas party is to be held on Wednesday 18th December in the afternoon.  Please bring an extra snack and drink to enjoy during our party and remember that you can wear your party clothes to school on the day.

P6 Inter house technology challenge

Today we were given the challenge of making a chimney that Santa could fit down, that was 50cm tall and could stand on its own.

We worked in groups and demonstrated our ability to work as a team and be resilient, even when things weren’t going to plan. We all produced chimneys that met the design brief but also managed to show our creativity and imagination too. There was lots of planning, cutting, joining, measuring, testing and improving going on. We all enjoyed it and said we had learned a lot – in particular we learned that planning and preparation are key

The winning team from Orkney.

The standard was very high so it was a difficult decision to make. Look at how tough the competition was in p6c.

Wonderful Windows!

Here are some examples of the wonderful windows that P6c have made for homework over the last fortnight showing great creativity and imagination. Well done P6!

Problem solved!

This week some of the class made quadrilateral mobiles to hang in the classroom. When Mrs Smart went to hang them we discovered that they wouldn’t hang straight, that they were lop-sided.

Problem!

We had to solve the problem – and we did!

We used blue tack to weigh it down on one side.

We used  string to make it more stable

We added more shapes to balance it out.

Some of us used blu-tack to weigh it down, some of us used the string to make sure it hung more evenly, some of us added more shapes to balance it out. We worked together to find a solution and now our mobiles are hanging proudly in class. Great work p6c! ☺️

Inter House Technology Challenge

On Friday 13th December P6 will be taking part in our Inter House Technology Challenge. Please bring in resources to help you with your challenge. Lots of boxes, cardboard and joining materials would be helpful!
