Primary 7a and Primary 1a Science Investigation

Today P7a and P1a worked together on a science investigation. We looked at the different types of beaks that birds have and investigated the speed at which they would use them.

We got a variety of seeds, beads and leaves to pick up with different utensils and we used a stopwatch to time it.

‘It was so much fun working with the P1s.’ Rebecca.

Beat the Street

Preparations are underway to dress the Beat Box outside our school in a spring theme.

Euan worked closely with Mrs Hussain to create a centre piece for our Beat the Street display.

The biggest challenge for us, is that the display needs to be waterproof to withstand the weather we have been exposed to recently. So we decided to use recycled plastic bottles to create flowers and insects.

Keep an eye out for the finished product!

Yeast Balloon Experiment

Today we did an experiment, where we put different levels of yeast and sugar in bottles to see what combinations would release the most carbon dioxide and make the balloons the biggest.

We found adding more sugar didn’t make a difference but adding more yeast made a big difference. One of the balloons popped and the wet yeast sugar went all over the window and window sill.

The balloons are still getting bigger and everyone in the class is excited to see how big the balloons grow over the weekend.

Fairtrade

This week we went to an assembly about Fairtrade, the assembly was delivered by P4a. They told us about what fair trade does to help farmers to get better prices so they are fair to their employees . We were very interested to learn all about it.

Mr Blackwood’s Visit

This week on Wednesday Mr Blackwood came to teach the the whole of P7 about WWII. It was really interesting listening to his stories.

Mr Blackwood also had some helmets, stamps and old money from WWII to show us. Mr Blackwood knew so much about world WWII from all over the war, we all learnt so many new things. Thank you!

Burns Day

For Robert Burns day, we are singing a Scottish song. Our teacher asked us to  research a Scottish song for our homework. We had to then present it to the class. We had a vote to see which Scottish song we would sing, and 500 miles won.

Since then, we have been practising our song in class, and for homework, to present on Friday when we are having a mini Burns supper.

Miss Edmondstone, Miss Cumming and Mr Russell joined in on the singing during our Burns Supper.

Vertically Opposite Angles

On Monday I learned how to do vertically opposite angles.  I am in Fibonacci maths group.

I tried the challenge homework and it was easy, apart from the last question….!

My older brother Oliver helped me and showed me how to do it and again, it was simple by the time it was done.
