The Apprentice

P6/7 discussed what they wanted to do for their next topic. It had to be related to Enterprise. After some discussion Gabriel had a fabulous idea of using the television programme ‘The Apprentice’ as a theme for their topic.

The class selected their own groups of 5. And picked a team name. We have 4 teams competing:

  • Team Evolve
  • Team Titanium
  • Silver Arrow
  • Golden Galaxy

Each week they will be given a task, and have to select a project manager. We will update the progress of each task through our class blog.

Task 1 – Branding

Their first task was a branding challenge. They had to take the role of a designing company and come up with packaging for a chocolate brand called ‘Blazin Raisins’. To help select the best design we sent the final designs to the other classes to vote. The team that got the most votes were Team Titanium! The feedback in the boardroom included: people liked the colours and slogan.

Golden Galaxy Project Manager Cayla
Silver Arrows

Task 2 – Advertising

This week the teams had to come up with an advertising campaign for the ‘No Bovver Hoverboard’ by the company ‘The Future is Here’

They selected different project managers. It was great to see them selecting people who they felt would best be suited for this particular task. They had to create a 30 second TV advert and a Billboard.

Once the teams had completed their adverts and billboards, we sat in the ‘BoardRoom’ and watched them. The class then had to vote for the one that met the criteria and they thought was effective in grabbing attention. The group with the winning Billboard was the Silver Arrows, and the team with the winning advert was team Evolve. When counting the total votes with both advert campaigns combined, the group that came out top were Team Titanium! Have a look at the billboards and the adverts.

WW2 Homework projects

Primary 6/7 have worked very hard on their WW2 homework projects. They went away and picked their own subject to research and created models, PowerPoints, posters and drawings and presented them to the class. Everyone enjoyed doing this and we learnt many things from each other.

Ruby made a model of a Spitfire using a kitchen roll tube, kinder egg toy holder and a fish fingers box.
Ruby’s Spitfire!
Hamish made a poster about evacuation and what to pack in a suitcase.
Beth brought in a Spitfire gunner log.
Beth also brought in a ration book from WW2 time.
Mhairi’s great grandad made this for her grandad during WW2.
Mhairi also brought in medals that belonged to her great grandad.
Jody researched hero dogs that were well known during the WW2. Stubby, Chips and Smokey.
Stubby, Chips and Smokey.
Gabriel made an Anderson shelter at home using a can, leaves and hot glue.
Arrah built her very own Anderson shelter at home.
Rian made an Anderson shelter using sweets! It looked yummy, and he even got a gold coin from Mrs ,McKay as well as a Head Teachers award.
Toni created a poster with some WW2 facts.
Sofie created a factfile with some WW2 facts and pictures.

Election day

It’s the General election today and people all over the UK are going to their polling stations to vote. Since P6/7 have been learning about the Scottish Parliamemt we had our own election in school. Over the last few weeks we have worked in groups and created our own political parties. From choosing a name for our party, making a logo, selecting a party leader and writing party manifestos we put together our campaigns and presented our party promises to the class. There was a question and answer session and we debated on some interesting topics. In the end the boys and girls voted using a ballot paper (Mrs Rasul made sure we didn’t vote for our party)

Everyone had put so much effort in and to our surprise there wasn’t one winner. Each party recieved 5 votes each making it equal! Our parties included:

UST – Uplawmoor Safety Trust

A.D.A.M – Ashley, Dylan, Arrah, Max

L.E.P

S.A.P

Party Leaders:

John Muir Award

Primary 7 are discovering their natural environment and starting their journey to achieve the John Muir award. It was a good day to start as today is Outdoor Classroom day, and the right of the month this month is Article 29 ‘the right to be educated about respecting our natural environment.’

Primary 7 learned about John Muir himself and his life, and wrote down what they would like to explore in their playground and at the residential next week.

‘I want to look at ants closely and their behaviours.’ – Matthew

‘How tall can trees grow?’ – Dylan

Everyone has many things they want to explore, which gives us a good starting point.

P6/7 competed in a Chopsticks Challenge!

We had to use chopsticks to move things from one bowl to another (including 2 Malteasers)

It sure was a challenge!

Here are some of our best times:

Max – 27 seconds

Rian 31 seconds

Matthew 39 seconds

Carly 41 seconds

However, Dylan stole the title of Chopsticks Champion with an amazing record of 18 seconds! Well done Dylan.

Our Study of China

As part of their China topic P6/7 carried out research projects on an an area of interest. The pupils worked extremely hard and produced excellent projects. Some pupils made Power Points, others made posters and Alexander even made his own video on Origami. This was great as we got to learn about some unusual and exciting things about China. Here are a few examples:

P6/7 become Victorian Pupils

In IDL we have been learning about the Victorians.  Last week we were lucky enough to visit Scotland Street Museum to experience what it was like to be a Victorian pupil.  Every time we were asked a question, we had to stand up and say the answer, then say ‘sir’ at the end.  Some children had to  wear a ‘dunce’ hat, which was used to ridicule children who got the wrong answer.  We also had to do handwriting with a quill dipped in ink.  Mine was a mess!!  Adam Pollok P7dsc00707 dsc00848 dsc00698 dsc00845 dsc00765
