STEM event and Glasgow Clyde College

We were very lucky to have the opportunity to attend a STEM event last week. At this event we had the chance to meet people who have jobs and careers in these subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and heard all about their journeys. Glasgow Clyde college had arranged some great workshops and we had a chance to attend 3. These workshops included:

Hydrogen Fuel cells – having a chance to see how these work and creating a circuit to make a fan go on.

Robots – getting to see behind the scenes on how to program a robot.

Apps – Alexander and Scott had the chance to make their own game, which was a version of the famous ‘Flappy Bird’.

Brick Layering and weaving.

During our lunch break we also had the chance to meet different exhibitors and ask them questions about their jobs and organisations. By the end of it we learnt that there are so many options out there for future job prospects, jobs we had never even thought about.

Scott, Alexander, Beth, Cayla, Abigail and Ruby.

Ice Cream Parlour!

Today we ran an ice cream parlour. In total we sold 60 ice creams and made £30. We made a profit of £10.80 and enjoyed it very much. The most popular ice cream was mint choc chip. We will run it again and will hopefully make more profit as this is going towards our leavers do.

Scones with Mrs Paterson

Ruby had told the class about Mrs Paterson’s scrumptious scones and thought it would be a great idea to get her in so that we can make them. So at the end of Maths week, Mrs Paterson kindly came in to our class to make scones with us. We had to use scales to measure the different ingredients. This was great fun and the scones turned out delicious. Thank you so much Mrs Paterson!

WW2 Homework projects

Primary 6/7 have worked very hard on their WW2 homework projects. They went away and picked their own subject to research and created models, PowerPoints, posters and drawings and presented them to the class. Everyone enjoyed doing this and we learnt many things from each other.

Ruby made a model of a Spitfire using a kitchen roll tube, kinder egg toy holder and a fish fingers box.
Ruby’s Spitfire!
Hamish made a poster about evacuation and what to pack in a suitcase.
Beth brought in a Spitfire gunner log.
Beth also brought in a ration book from WW2 time.
Mhairi’s great grandad made this for her grandad during WW2.
Mhairi also brought in medals that belonged to her great grandad.
Jody researched hero dogs that were well known during the WW2. Stubby, Chips and Smokey.

Gabriel made an Anderson shelter at home using a can, leaves and hot glue.
Arrah built her very own Anderson shelter at home.
