Pie chart challenge

As part of their maths challenge this week, the Pentagons had to make a class pie chart to display information on class birthdays. They worked in pairs. It was challenging to make sure all the sections were equal, however, they did a great job and used their creative minds to help them.

Bearings in maths

The triangles have been learning about compass points and bearings. As part of a challenge, they worked together to create a large class compass on the carpet. They were given the resources and had to work together, using their problem solving skills. They used real compasses to find the direction of North, and then a protracter to identify the other points. The end result was superb!

Ice Cream Parlour!

Today we ran an ice cream parlour. In total we sold 60 ice creams and made £30. We made a profit of £10.80 and enjoyed it very much. The most popular ice cream was mint choc chip. We will run it again and will hopefully make more profit as this is going towards our leavers do.

Scones with Mrs Paterson

Ruby had told the class about Mrs Paterson’s scrumptious scones and thought it would be a great idea to get her in so that we can make them. So at the end of Maths week, Mrs Paterson kindly came in to our class to make scones with us. We had to use scales to measure the different ingredients. This was great fun and the scones turned out delicious. Thank you so much Mrs Paterson!

Fidget Spinner Investigation!

Fidget Spinners are the latest craze!

P7 brought them into class to carry out a fidget spinner investigation. We each recorded our times of how long we can spin our spinners at a 45 degree angle and did this 5-10 times and then created individual graphs. Mia discovered she was getting better after each attempt! She managed to spin it for 32 seconds on her first attempt and on her 10th attempt she managed to do it for 67 seconds!

Murder Mystery!

P7 have been learning about directions and bearings on a map. As part of a maths lesson we worked in groups of 2 or 3 to solve a murder mystery. It involved following clues and using a protractor to calculate bearings to identify suspects, crime scene, and weapon used. Max and Cameron worked really well and were the first to solve the mystery. The others were very close too!
