Scottish Maths Week in P4

Primary 4 have thoroughly enjoyed Scottish Maths Week. We have played online maths activities on Sumdog in class and as part of our homework.

“Sumdog has helped me get better at subtracting. It has been lots of fun” – Lennon

“We have used the new chromebooks and iPads to try out Sumdog.” – Harry

We have developed our financial life skills this week through discussions about our needs and wants. As we get older we will have to decide what to spend our money on.  We are beginning to understand the difference between a need and a want and appreciate why sometimes we will not be able to afford both.

“Sometimes in life we want things that we don’t need. I will think carefully whether I need something or not.” – Rosie

We also planned a party which has developed our budgeting skills. Our aim was to carefully add together the cost of each item to make sure we did not overspend. We were also calculating the change we would receive after buying particular items.

“We solved a problem by deciding which items to buy for our party or not. My group managed to stay in budget and saved £2!” – Jamie

The Fractions Fiesta was also a lot of fun.

“We were sharing out Smarties to show different fractions.” -Chelsea

“The Primary 7s helped us to think about what we already know about fractions as well as learn some new things.” -Josh

Primary 4

Primary 4 have been engaging in various tasks relevant to our topic this week.

“We were finding adjectives within our novel. I found the adjective enormous.” -Theo

“I used a highlighter pen to mark out the adjectives on my worksheet.” -Kay

Primary 4 have also written a recipe for chocolate cake this week. Yum!

“We used laptops to make a PowerPoint about the characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” -Isla

“I really enjoyed using different colours for my text.” -Connor

Primary 4 had great fun using the iPads this week to try out Sumdog maths activities. We are all very much looking forward to Scottish Maths Week and engaging with Sumdog again.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Primary 4 have been very busy this week. We introduced our new novel study and topic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

“Ghana, Indonesia and Côte d’Ivoire produce the most cocoa beans in the world.” – Sandi and Elijah

“We used globes and atlases to locate Ghana, Indonesia and Côte d’Ivoire.” – Jamie

“We designed lots of sweeties and lollipops inspired by Willy Wonka’s designs.” – Ailsa

“We created different shapes and sizes of sweets. I liked the bubble gum and chocolate designs. They were just like the sweets in Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.” – Rosie

“We used card, cellophane wrap and recycled paper to make our sweets.” – Lucas
