This week we have had parents evenings and want to first say a thanks to all of our helpers for those evenings. As well as that, it has been a super busy week in the classroom! Here are a few things we got up to:
Storybooks
For world book day next week, we are creating our own storybooks to read to the Primary 2s. We have been doing lots of work on them this week and they are coming together nicely. Mrs Rasul is looking forward to seeing the end result and thinks the next Julia Donaldson or Michael Rosen could come from this class.
Martin Luther King Jr.
This week we have been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and exploring language from his famous speech ‘I have a dream’. First we did a comprehension about him, then we watched his speech and read some extracts before moving on to creating some art linked to the speech. Some of the key vocabulary and powerful lines we selected include:
- Let Freedom Rain
- We cannot walk alone
- One day this nation will rise up
- Sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
Eastwood P.E.
The Eastwood P.E. sessions have started again and this week we were split into 2 groups and had the chance to choose which activity we wanted to be a part of. The options were netball and football. We did mini tournaments and this will continue each week.
Problem Solving
For maths we have been working on the strategy of guess, check and improve and had to figure out the missing boxes in a 3 x 3 multiplication grid. At first this was a little tricky but with some perseverance we managed to get to the solution!
