Grow Your £5

The highlight of our week has been our ‘Grow Your £5’ event at Parent’s Night on Wednesday.

We had great fun selling our products and calculating our profit.

As some our our businesses still have products to sell we will aim to advertise our products to the rest of the school and have a final event before the end of term, which will allow us to calculate our final profit and decide what we would like to do with our earnings.

DCs hot chocolate was delicious.

WMJ “some people commented that our bracelets looked cute”

Thank you to our parent’s for supporting our business ventures! 🙂

Tennis

During P.E, we were developing our tennis skills. We worked in threes to develop our aim, reaction time and accuracy in returning the tennis ball. We really enjoyed this activity!

After some practising we added in a net. This was only our second time using the net while having a rally so we need work at our skills in order to do this.

Have a lovely weekend P5A 😊

Problem Solving

We have started looking at lots of different strategies to solve numeracy problems.  Over the last two weeks we have tried making a model, act it out, reason logically and guess check and improve.

Grow Your £5

We have had a few busy lunchtimes over the last couple of weeks in preparation for our Grow Your £5 event at Wednesday night’s Parent’s Night between 4.30pm – 7.30pm.  We will take turns to sell our products and hopefully meet our target sales.

World Thinking Day

“All of the Scouts, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs and other groups were able to bring in their uniforms and sashes. It was really fun.” – Abby

Science

Water Density Experiment

We mixed fresh water with food colouring, then mixed in salt water.  We learnt that salt water is denser than fresh water, therefore the salt water sank to the bottom of the cup and the coloured fresh water stayed at the top.

Grow Your £5

This week we have created a company logo and created our shopping list of items we require to create our product.  We have learnt how to sell our product for a profit too.   We have estimated our predicted sales based on the number of products we think we can make and calculated our predicted profit.

Gymnastics

We have been working on our paired balances this week in gymnastics.

Grow Your £5 – Virgin Money

This week we have been looking at gaps in the market to help us create a product.

“We were deciding what to use to create books.  Some of the other groups are making food or jewellery.” Ben H

Next week we will be looking at product logos and how much it will cost to make our products.

LEAF Action Plan

“We were tracking how trees change over Winter.  We each chose a tree and garden area and took a picture of it to track over the seasons.”  Ibrahim

“We went outside for LEAF and each group 3-4 chose an area.  In our area we looked at its growth for a long time then will look at the progress later on in the different seasons.  Me and my friends made a small bug area and places for the birds to land.  It was fun!” Magnus

Titanic Shoe Boxes

“We were making Titanic rooms out of shoe boxes.  I made a swimming pool and a first-class bedroom.”  HP

“The grand staircase has lots of gold and it was really fun making it with Charlotte.” Aayshah

We will post out a picture of our final Titanic ship made out of shoe boxes when we are finished.

Stop Motion Animation

This afternoon we started making our story boards for our animations about the Titanic.  We are looking forward to collating the resources we need to make the animations; they will be great once they are finished.

PE

Indoors, we have been beginning our gymnastics unit. We showed off our dynamic forward rolls, pencil rolls and teddy bear rolls!

“We we’re learning about different rolls. My forward rolls were excellent.” – Emily

Outdoors, we began our tennis unit. We practiced balancing and bouncing the tennis balls with and without a racket. We even managed to play a couple of rallies.

“We were doing ‘keepy-uppies’ with our rackets. My favourite part of the lesson was the rallies at the end!” – Ben S

Tinkercad

Primary 5 have been experimenting with ‘Tinkercad’, an online tool used to create 3D models. We have been using this to create digital models of the Titanic.

“We needed to use the 3D design tool to create every part of the ship and the iceberg. When we have done this we can then create stop-motion.” – Adam and Caleb

Make £5 Grow

In collaboration with Virgin Money, we have been looking at the topic ‘enterprise’ and have been given the opportunity to turn £5 for each pupil into a business venture. We will be designing, creating and advertising our own products.

“We have been given £5 each to create and advertise a product. I am thinking about creating bracelets as a potential product.” – Mariia

“My group and I have been discussing what products we could create. We are considering creating cupcakes. We will need to use our leadership and creativity to turn our business into a success.” – Archie

Christmas Party

After break on Tuesday we had our Christmas Party. It was really fun and we played lots of games (and some children even won prizes!).  We played Christmas corners, musical statues, musical bumps and had a best dancer competition.

P7 Christmas Crafts

A group of P7 children came into our class to teach us a Christmas craft. We had the options of creating a Santa, a Snowman, a wreath, a Christmas tree or a snowflake. We enjoyed this learning opportunity.

Craft Afternoons

Sewing Baubles

We had to thread a needle to sew a pattern onto a Christmas bauble. We were given the option of which colour to pick for our design. Once we had completed our design we chose a ribbon to hang our bauble on the tree. It was really fun but it came with some challenges.

Hama Beads

We were given the opportunity to pick a stencil and used the Hama Beads to create a design or pattern. This activity required a lot of concentration because if you made a mistake the whole design could fall apart.

Xmas Cards

We designed Christmas cards by watching a tutorial on how to draw an elf. Then we got green paper and created a pop up present or Christmas tree. Finally, we added decorations and glitter to complete our cards.

MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR EVRYONE!

08.12.23

Christmas Jumper Day

We were all in the festive spirit today wearing our Christmas jumpers.

Present Room

We enjoyed selecting presents for our friends and family at the Present Room today.

P5 Christmas Carols

We have practised our songs a lot this week and are looking forward to performing them for friends and family next week.

Have a good weekend!

Maths in Motion

Some of us have been learning about compass points and directions.  We have used this knowledge to programme online Beebots to move to different locations.

Football

This week we were working on teamwork skills in small sided football games with Logan.  We practised some keepy-ups and dribbling too.

Christmas Performance

Rehearsals are in full swing for our Christmas Concert.

“Carol of the Bells is our best one!”  Ben H

“I Love ‘Carol of the Bells!” Mariia

“I like Silent Night.” Charlotte

“I love Ding, Dong , Merrily on High because it has a really long note.” Daanya.

“My favourite one is Feliz Navidad.'” Aayshah

Assembly

Children from our class took part in a recorder performance at assembly today.  They played ‘Rover’ and ‘Times Flies’.  ‘Times Flies’ they played as a  round and it was great.

“It was really fun playing in front of the assembly.” Ethan

Road Safety Week

This week has been Road Safety Week.  PC Mitchell came along to our assembly and spoke to us about how to keep ourselves safe in a car, on a pavement and roads.  We found out that you are 5 times more likely to be in a road accident if you are on your phone when driving.

‘It is kind to help people cross the road if they are scared or need some extra help to cross the road.’ Harley

We sorted Road Safety facts under the headings true, false and not sure.  We also played interactive games and watched videos to identify road safety issues.

We had the opportunity to design our own Road Safety posters and enter them into a competition.  Hopefully we will hear soon who the winner are.
