Week Beginning 16th/23rd May 2022

Welcome to this weeks blog!  Have a look at some of our learning experiences!

Woodland

We were looking for mini beasts and their habitats and had to consider why they chose that as their habitat – Benjamin

After we found our mini beasts, we made a bug hotel for mini beasts.  Whilst we were doing it we found a dancing worm – Fynn

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

We were making plans for designing our own chocolate room, after we read that chapter – Sunny

We were playing a game called Blooket.  You can select a mode and play against each other.  We were answering quiz questions from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  If you got questions right you could steal coins from someone – Finn

P.E

We were practising for Sports Day and we did some races – Lucy

Our School Values

We were designing a new school values poster.  We had to include our vision and our school values – Haroon

Week Beginning 2nd/9th May 2022

Welcome to this weeks blog!

Art – Picasso

We have been learning about Pablo Picasso  and we painted a colour wheel.  We were mixing colours.  We learned about primary colours, secondary colours and tertiary colours – Finn

Miss MacInnes showed us a drawing and we had to answer questions about it like ‘did you like/dislike it?’ and ‘what do you think it was called?’ – Rose

He lived in Spain and when he turned 19 he went to Paris and he got into a really good art school.  He also created good sculptures – Sunny

He also created cubism and he went through a blue phase where all his drawings were sad, grey and blue – Finn

Germs and Diseases

We were working and learning about germs – Arran

We put glitter in a tub and one person put their hand in and shook hands with someone and then passed it on – Freya

The glitter represented germs and how quickly they can spread .  We then tried to see what would get the germs off best – Sadie

Outdoor Learning

We were learning about minibeasts and we found a few in the Woodland area.  They were mostly worms – Matthew

Having fun in Creative Time

Learning about Eid

We were learning about Eid.  We were very lucky to have Haroon present his celebrations with the class.

In Ramadan you have to fast from sunrise to sunset.  Fasting means that you don’t eat or drink anything.  We designed our own mendhi tattoos – Haroon

Numeracy

We were learning about money and we had to count up to calculate change – Jamie

Week Beginning 25th April

Welcome to this weeks blog! 

We have so much fun in primary 3 since coming back from the holidays – take a look!!

This week, we were learning about how to make different amounts using the fewest amount of coins – Haroon

We were also learning how to give change with different coins – Toby

This week, we really enjoyed spending some time reading!

This week we learning about Passover.

Passover is a Jewish celebration, where they have things on their plate, that reminds them what the slaves from Israel had to do in Egypt – Rose

They have a special meal called ‘Seder’ – Benjamin

Miss MacInnes gave us a new book.  We had to guess what the front cover was.  We were only told the title of the book as a clue – Fynn

We enjoyed our first time back in Woodland, the mud wasn’t very soggy and it was fun – Finn

We really enjoyed Outdoor Learning this week.  We got to play fun games – Freya

I made a bug hotel – Lucy

This week, we were making fruit salad.  The ingredients we could use were – tangerine, orange juice, red and green grapes, bananas and apples – Charlotte

We made fruit salads because we were learning about healthy eating.  We also learned how to cut the fruits – Sunny

We learned 2 different ways to cut the fruit – Abi

We were using the claw grip.  You had to put your fingers together to guide the knife and move your fingers when cutting – Matthew

The other cutting skill was the bridge hold.  It makes it easier for you to cut and you make sure you don’t cut yourself – Abby

We all had happy faces eating our fruit salad!! 🙂

Week beginning 14th/21st March 2022

Welcome to this weeks blog!

Over the past couple of weeks we have been having lots of fun in Primary 3 and have been working really hard on our Bee Musical!  We are really looking forward to our performance and very excited for everybody to come and see it!

Literacy and English

We were learning about different openers – Lucy

We all had cards with different sentences on them and we had to think of exciting openers to add to the sentences – Sunny

After lunch most days, we have 10 minutes of silent reading to calm us down after we have been outside playing games and running – Rose

We all really enjoy reading as it is very calm – Abi

When people read they get new ideas for writing – Rhys

It can put pictures into your head of what is happening to the characters inside the book and it calms us down after lunch – Fynn

Numeracy and Maths

We went around the classroom and asked people questions like ‘whats your favourite food and movie’.  Then we recorded it in a tally chart – Abby

We gathered all the data that we used and we put it into a bar chart – Sadie

Everyone got 1 card with a number on it and a number that you are trying to find.  Then you had to find the number you were looking for and the other person had to find you.  You kept doing that until it created a big circle – Finn

We were learning about more than/less than and equals.

<is less than > is more than and this is equals = – Toby

Science Week!

For science week we watched an online lesson.

It was about different bugs.  At the start it was kind of gross because there was cow pats – Matthew

The bugs were called minibeasts and they looked in the poo to find the minibeasts- Freya

They were on a farm – Arran

Bee Musical!

We have had lots of fun practising this week and making props.

World Down Syndrome Awareness

On Monday, most of us in the class wore odd socks because there are things in your body that make you you! The reason why we wore odd socks is because the thing in your body that makes you you is socks! – Matthew

Our Bee Musical!

We were all really excited to find out our parts in the show!

We have been practising our songs and practising our parts with our scripts! – Brooke

P.E

We learned how to play dodge-ball abs when you get hit with the ball you are out and you get back in if someone gets a full catch.  And we played ‘Secret Tig’ – Freya

Literacy

We were visualising – Sophie

Miss MacInnes read out a few paragraphs from Harry Potter and we had to draw what we imagined in our heads – Lewis

We also created a comic strip about a worker bees life – Abi S

Numeracy and Maths

We were learning how to tile shapes.  If the shapes are curved they couldn’t be tiled – Matthew

We got to make our own tiling patterns and we got to use any resources to tile the shapes together and make a pattern – Sadie

Week Beginning 14th February 2022

Literacy

We were learning how to write a comic strip.  We made our own, we could choose whatever we want – Brooke

It was split into three parts – the beginning, middle and the end – Lucy

We learned that it should have onomatopoeia words such as ‘KAPOW!’ ‘BOOM!’ ‘BANG!’ – Sunny

 

The Sun, Moon and the Stars

For homework, we created a sun, moon and stars presentation.  You could make a slideshow or a poster – Freya

Some people made it on Sway and some people used posters to hold up – Rose

We learned lots of new interesting facts!

 

Music

We were learning a song and played a game trying to keep the beat – Ben

When the ball stopped on you, you had to say your favourite flavoured pie – Arran

We were making a strong, steady, straight stave ready to start  with our hands – Finn

Week Beginning 7th February 2022

Welcome to this weeks blog!  This week has been a short week due to our holiday.  Have a look at some of our fun learning experiences this week!

Toby very kindly brought in some Chinese New Year decorations from his home.  He brought in a book all about the celebration, a red envelope and a red and gold hanging decoration that brings good luck! We really enjoyed looking at them and learning a little bit more about the celebration.

Science

We were learning about the sun.  We researched some facts with our partner – Lucy

We found out lots of amazing and interesting facts – Haroon

We found out that the sun is 4.5 billion years old – Rose

We also found out that people thought that the sun orbited the earth.  However, in the 16th century people discovered that the earth orbits the sun – Calum

We also found out that the sun is 150 million kilometres away from the earth – Abby

Art 

On Wednesday, we were making a picture of a stormy field – Charlotte

We used chalk and coloured pencils – Freya

We used our knowledge of different lines to help us – Lewis

We were inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting ‘A Field Under a Stormy Sky’ – Haroon

Week Beginning 24th January 2022

Welcome to this weeks blog.  Please have a look below at some of our learning experiences from this week!

Art 

On Monday, we went to the Woodland area and we were looking at the trees.  We then came back inside and tried to draw a tree – Ben

We were focusing on different lines – Lewis

Numeracy

Some of us were learning about adding tens and units.  We were learning how to complete vertical calculations by adding and subtracting.

Literacy

We were learning about inference.

We had to read paragraphs and guess where the characters were without it actually telling us.

In writing this week we were learning how to write a poem in Scots.  We learned a little bit about Robert Burns and read some of his poetry.

We were writing our own poem about our favourite food.  It was based off of the poem, ‘Address to a Haggis’- Rose

This week we wrote our poems in English, next week we will translate it to Scots – Benjamin

Some of us were very excited to read out our poems to the class.

Science

Our new science topic is Sun, Moon and Stars – Freya

On Tuesday we were learning lots about Day and Night – Sophie

We learned that when the sun is facing one part of the earth it is day time.  The other part of the earth is night time as their is no brightness – Sadie
