Pop in and Play and Buddy Fun!

Outdoors this week we explored forces. We created amazing ramps and looked at how the height of the ramp altered the movement of the cars.

“We made ramps with equipment.”

“We made ramps so the cars could ride on them.”

“If it is too high (the ramp) it goes super fast and if it is too low it goes super slow.”

“One bit is high and one bit is lower to make the ramp and they go down it but if it is flat they don’t go down it.”

“The cars can’t go up the ramp the ramp.”

We loved sharing our learning and exploring our classroom with our grown-ups this week!

“It was lovely!”

“I loved my Mummy being in my class.”

We had a lovely time with our buddies this afternoon. Our buddies had created their own stories and story sets and they shared these with us. We were really impressed with the amazing stories and had great fun with our buddies.

“The buddies made stories and read them.”

“I loved my buddies story!”

Maths Week, Magnets and More!

We have had another busy week filled with lots of great learning experiences!

Outdoors we were exploring the properties of different materials and used the magnets to determine if items were magnetic or not.

“We were seeing stuff that would connect to magnets.”

“We were looking for things that were magnetic and non-magnetic.”

“There are different kinds of metals and some stick to magnets and some don’t.”

This week we have been celebrating Maths Week Scotland. The theme for this was Maths in Motion. We have been discussing this each day and enjoyed watching the teachers compete with each other in the step count challenge.

We have been thinking about Position and Direction and how we can use our knowledge to move the Bee-Bots around the spots on our carpet. We had to give the Bee-Bot a clear set of instructions so that we could direct it to different stars.

“We were doing directions and pressing the bot to move them.”

“We were trying to move them and we had to tell the bee-bot how many steps.”

Our story of the week was ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson which we have really enjoyed.  We used wool and a paper plate to weave a spider web. We found it quite tricky and had to learn to keep the wool tight to allow us to weave the next part.

“We made webs with string, it was a bit tricky!”

“We made webs for spiders and I liked the story.”

We have loved acting out our helicopter stories this week, we have been using our bodies and facial expressions to show how different characters would act.

“We  made drama with our bodies.”

“We performed using our bodies we moved them to do drama.”

We have been thoroughly enjoying Gymnastics in PE, we have been developing our balancing skills when using equipment and have wowed Miss Regan with our great forward rolls and handstands!

“We used our landing shape to help us land.”

“We were doing forward rolls, it was fun!”

Bubble Fun and More in P1C!

Outdoors we had great fun making our own bubbles. We experimented with the mixture to try and create a mixture that created the best bubbles. We found the best recipe that created the shiniest and biggest bubbles!  We used different items from outdoors to create different shapes of bubbles and we enjoyed seeing how the different bubbles floated in the sky.

“We made shapes of bubbles and I made a big one!”

When we blew the bubbles in the straw it made big bubbles and they popped on our t-shirts.”

“We were making bubbles and blowing them around.”

“We made our own bubbles and blew out different shapes.”

“We put soap and water then mixed them together to make the  bubbles.”

In Art, we have been learning about line, we used our knowledge of line to help us create a picture.

“You have bumpy lines, straight lines and hill lines.”

“We were being creative with our lines.”

We are continuing to develop our understanding of growth mindset . We listened to Incy Wincy and we discussed how Incy uses their growth mindset to keep trying even when it is tricky. We created our own spiders and thought of challenges we face and discussed how we can use our growth mindset to help overcome any challenges.

“He used his growth mindset to climb up the spout.”

“I am going to try and use my growth mindset to help me do a handstand, cartwheel and the monkey bars.”

“I use my growth mindset to help me do good kicks in football.”

Superworm, Sounds and Super Balancing in P1C!

In Literacy and English this week, we were introduced to the sounds S, A and T. We enjoyed hearing each sounds story, learning the songs and generating words that begin with that sound. We also explored lots of different activities around the room relating to our new sounds like cutting stars and using the toothbrushes to clean the ‘t’s away.

“We learnt s and a’

“We cut stars because we were learning ‘s’!”

“We like our new sounds.”

Out in the MUGA this week for PE we created a large obstacle course and huge to use our balancing skills to ensure we didn’t fall off. This week, we started Gymnastics and we enjoyed learning different shapes and creating different partner balances. Miss Regan was very impressed with our great balancing!

“We balanced on each other, it was really fun!”

“We learnt about shapes, we made them with our body.”

“We made an obstacle course, it was fun”.

Outdoors we explored weight and enjoyed estimating how heavy different items would be.

“We were looking at the weight of the bricks”

Our story of the week has been Superworm which we have all thoroughly enjoyed! We discussed what kind of habitat Superworm would live in and designed our own habitat for Superworm. We then went on a minibeast hunt to see if we could find more characters from the book.

“We were trying to find superworm and his habitat”

“We tried to find all minibeasts.”

“I saw a ladybird, a fly, we found everything on the list!”

PE, Painting and Patterns in P1C!

We have had another busy week in  P1C!

This week in PE, we have been working hard on our throwing and catching skills. We really enjoyed using balloons and cones to help us develop these skills.

“We were practicing catching with the balloons and cones”

“We played lots of games, we played beat the teacher and you had to run faster than Miss Hutchison. It is so fun!”

“When someone throws the balloon you have to try catch it in the cone and then do it for the other person”

Outdoors we collected different items like sticks and leaves and used these to create wonderful paintings.

“We used sticks as paint brushes and leaves as wipers to make a pattern. We smushed up berries to make purple paint”

“I made fireworks on the edges of mine”

We have been learning about pattern in Numeracy and Maths. We have enjoyed continuing Miss Regan’s patterns and making our  own.

“Doing patterns, you can make them fancy and cool!”

P1C First Weekly Blog!

Welcome to Primary 1C’s weekly blog! We have had  a great week exploring our classroom environment and learning new routines. I am so proud of how the children have settled and I hope that you are too.

This week we enjoyed discussing our families. We spoke about how much we love our family and we discussed how all families are special and different and how our family is very important  to us.

We have been working hard on our Phonological Awareness and we went on a listening walk, we had to be super quiet so that we could hear all the different noises outside. We then drew what we heard on our listening walk.

We created our own wonderful P1C superstars picture! We worked together to create our beautiful background and added our own wonderful self-portraits. We think it is super!

We loved exploring our outdoor area with Miss Hutchison.

We have been working hard on our counting and number formation. We loved playing games on the board to help us with this.

Here we are exploring the different areas of our classroom.
