Maths Week, Magnets and More!

We have had another busy week filled with lots of great learning experiences!

Outdoors we were exploring the properties of different materials and used the magnets to determine if items were magnetic or not.

“We were seeing stuff that would connect to magnets.”

“We were looking for things that were magnetic and non-magnetic.”

“There are different kinds of metals and some stick to magnets and some don’t.”

This week we have been celebrating Maths Week Scotland. The theme for this was Maths in Motion. We have been discussing this each day and enjoyed watching the teachers compete with each other in the step count challenge.

We have been thinking about Position and Direction and how we can use our knowledge to move the Bee-Bots around the spots on our carpet. We had to give the Bee-Bot a clear set of instructions so that we could direct it to different stars.

“We were doing directions and pressing the bot to move them.”

“We were trying to move them and we had to tell the bee-bot how many steps.”

Our story of the week was ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson which we have really enjoyed.  We used wool and a paper plate to weave a spider web. We found it quite tricky and had to learn to keep the wool tight to allow us to weave the next part.

“We made webs with string, it was a bit tricky!”

“We made webs for spiders and I liked the story.”

We have loved acting out our helicopter stories this week, we have been using our bodies and facial expressions to show how different characters would act.

“We  made drama with our bodies.”

“We performed using our bodies we moved them to do drama.”

We have been thoroughly enjoying Gymnastics in PE, we have been developing our balancing skills when using equipment and have wowed Miss Regan with our great forward rolls and handstands!

“We used our landing shape to help us land.”

“We were doing forward rolls, it was fun!”
