Scotland!

We have had another busy week in P1C!

We are continuing to learn about Scotland and this week we looked at famous Scottish Landmarks and their features. We decided to create them in the construction area and we created landmarks like Edinburgh Castle, The Kelpies and Loch Ness.

“I made a famous Scottish castle!”

“We made Scottish landmarks, I made Loch Ness with Nessie in it!”

We also had great fun learning about the different types of Scottish Dance. We worked in pairs to learn some different ceilidh dances, we tried a Canadian Barn dance and Gay Gordons. We especially loved the parts were you got to spin around with you partner.

“I loved it!”

“It was fun when you spun around with your partner.”

We also learnt how to preform a highland fling!

This week we have also looked at the importance of tartan, we know that tartan is special in Scotland and that each clan and family have their own tartan. We created our own tartan using cars to help us create the lines.

We used the cars to help us make the tartan, the car made the lines and we choose different colours to create it.”

“I made a colourful tartan.”

Busy at Work in P1C!

We have had a busy two weeks in P1C and hope everyone had a lovely holiday.

In Numeracy and Maths, we have been working hard to use concrete materials to help us solve different addition calculations. We have also been using numicon to help us explore number bonds for  numbers 8, 9 and 10.

“When you add it gets bigger”.

“We put two bits of numicon on top of 9 to see how we can make 9.”

We are continuing to explore money and we had great fun making our coin towers!

“The cups had different amounts on them and you had to look at the coin and try match it to the number.”

We have been developing our racket skills with Mrs Lamont. We have been working hard to pass the bean bags to each other without them falling off our racket. We had to try and do this 10 times without dropping it, which was much harder than we thought!

“We had to try and flip the bean bag like a pancake and keep it on.”

“We had to try and flip it to our partner and they had to throw it back.”

We are continuing to enjoy our topic which is Scotland and this week we drew what we think the Loch Ness Monster looks like and discussed the Scottish flag and then decided to design our own Scottish Flags.

“We made our very own Scottish flag and it was really fun doing it! You could do stripes or diagonal whatever you wanted”.

“We could design it however we wanted”.

“We designed Scotland flags because that is the country we live in!”

Last week, we really enjoyed a visit from our Digital leaders who talked to us about keeping safe online. We also enjoyed learning about Children’s Mental Health week. We discussed what we can do to help make ourselves feel better if we aren’t feeling calm or happy.

“We need to try and keep our brain healthy to keep us healthy”.

“The Digital Leaders taught us not to click on buttons that don’t look safe.”

Money, Money, Money!

This week in Numeracy and Maths, we explored Money. We looked at what money is used for, the value of each coin and ordered the coins from smallest to largest.

“We put them in order.”

“We had to find the right coin and put it in order.”

“We use coins to pay for things but my Mummy uses her phone to buy things.”

We are continuing to discuss what keeps us healthy and this week  we discussed the importance of sleep.  We know that sleep helps our brain store information and helps us to concentrate. We discussed our bedtime routine and wrote instructions for our own bedtime routine.

“I drew my bedtime routine, you have to start with what you do first.”

We really enjoyed learning all about Burns Day! We looked at why and how  we celebrate burns and read some of his poems. We had great fun trying to work out the meaning of different scots words. We then created our own ‘Wee Rid Motor’ to go with the poem ‘The Wee Rid Motor’ by Sandy Thomas Ross.

Giraffes Can’t Dance and More!

We have had another fun week in P1C! We have been continuing to work on time this week. We ordered the months of the year and days of the week. We also matched the digital time to the correct analogue clock.

“I can put the months in order.”

“We put days of the week  in order.”

“I can match digital time to the clock.”

We have continued with our colour mixing and we created beautiful seascapes by mixing blue and yellow. We then created our own fish and stuck them on.

“We mixed colours to make our background and then made our own fish.”

“We stuck the fish on the painting that we made.”

Our story of the week has been ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’, we all love this story and this prompted a discussion during circle time were we discussed what we can do well and what we want to improve. We then created our own beautiful I can pictures that we can’t wait to show you.

“We made a nice moon like the book Giraffes Can’t Dance and drew our own Gerald”

We have been working hard on our prediction skills and made predictions about our reading books. We then read our books to see if our prediction was similar to the story.

“We predicted what might happen in the book, my prediction was almost right!”

Time, Painting and More!

We have had a great first week back in P1C!

In Art, we are exploring colour we looked at the colour wheel and how we can mix colours together to make different colours. We mixed yellow and blue together to make green and created our own pictures.

“You dip the brush in and mix well to make the colour.”

“We mixed yellow with blue and got green.”

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning about how we keep healthy. We discussed why it is important to keep healthy and what we do to keep healthy.

“We eat fruit and vegetables to keep healthy.”

“I keep healthy by dancing and running.”

In Numeracy and Maths, we have been learning about time. We discussed the seasons and the features of each season. We also looked at the features of a clock and we loved using the clocks to show different o’clock times.

“I know o’clock.”

“I like summer best!”

We enjoyed writing about our holidays this week and we have been working hard to use our knowledge of rhyme and sounds to create different rhyming lists.

Christmas Fun in P1C!

We had a great time at our Nativity performance on Monday! We hope you enjoyed it is as much as we did!!

This week, we loved creating our Christmas baubles. We were very excited to get them home and hang them on our Christmas tress.

We had some pupils from P7C in our class to deliver a Winter lesson. We had so much fun listening to the story ‘Winnie in Winter’ and completing the quiz based on the story. They then showed us how to make our own snowman which we loved making.

The highlight of our week was  definitely our party! We had so much fun dancing and playing games but the best part was when our special visitor, Santa, stopped by all the way from the North Pole to deliver some presents!!

We have had such a wonderful term filled with lots of learning, laughter and fun. We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Have a wonderful Holiday and see you next year 🙂

Symmetry and Indi Cars Fun!

This week we have continued to work hard on our Nativity. We had a great dress rehearsal today and we loved having P4A and P6C as our audience.  We can’t wait for you all to see it on Monday!

“We need to be confident and sing loud!”

“We having been working hard learning our lines.”

This week in Maths and Numeracy we explored Symmetry. We know that when something is symmetrical it is the same on both sides. We had so much fun creating our own symmetrical Christmas tress and pictures.

“Things are the same at both sides and do you know we have been working hard at this.”

“Symmetry means its the same on both sides. If you don’t have it on both sides then its not symmetrical.”

“It looks the same at both sides so it is symmetrical.”

We loved using Indi car again this week!  We were set a challenge were we had to use all the tiles to create a track it was so much fun and Miss Regan was very impressed with our creations.

“We had to make tracks using all the tiles! We had to remember what each tile does.”

Indi Cars, Fraction Fun and More!

We have had another busy week in P1! We are continuing to work hard on our Nativity and we can’t wait for you all to see it.

We had so much fun exploring the Indi Cars this week. Each tile is a different colour and represents an instruction, we had great fun working out what the Indi car would do when it went on a particular tile. We then created our own tracks for Indi which was great fun! Hopefully the videos below work and you can seem some of our super tracks! We can’t wait to explore the Indi cars more next week.

“The mats do different things to Indi.”

“We made Indi a track and we had to use the colours.”

“The purple ones makes Indi spin, red makes him stop, green is go and some colours make Indi turn different ways.”

“We have to de-bug the track if doesn’t work.”

“It is so fun!”

This week, we have also been working hard on our common words and sounds. We have been making our common words using different items and sorting and matching sounds. We have also used our knowledge of common words and sounds to help us with our writing, where this week we enjoyed writing about our role in the Nativity.

“We matched the letter to the same one.”

“We wrote about what we are in the Nativity and we we do. I wrote that I need to sing.”

In Numeracy and Maths this week we explored Fractions. We had to sort items into half and whole and cut the playdough into half. We know that when something is split in half we have two equal parts.

“Half means you have two bits the same.”

Outdoors with Miss Hutchinson this week we LOVED splashing in the puddles! We decided to measure the size of different puddles using different items like sticks, string and rulers. We discovered that some puddles were a lot deeper and wider than others and that these were the best puddles for splashing in! We also thought it would be fun to create a stick race in some of the puddles.

“We measured how deep the puddles were and drew circles around them to see how big they are. We also jumped in puddles to see how splashy they are!”

“We played a game called  stick race and raced the sticks, it was fun but some sticks didn’t race well.”

Space, Junk Modelling and More!

We have had another busy week in P1C! We are really enjoying our Space topic and this week we wanted to learn about the planets. We looked at each planet and learnt some different facts about them. We were very surprised that the sun is not actually a planet and is a star. We decided to create our own planet pictures, we think they look fab!

“People only live on one planet and that is Earth.”

“We live on Earth.”

“Saturn is my favourite planet.”

“The sun isn’t a planet it is a star.”

We have been learning to add, we have been using concrete materials to help us solve different calculations.

“Numbers get bigger when we add.”

“When you add you make different numbers.”

We love reading our reading books and this week we were sequencing the events of a story. We had to put the pictures in the order they appear in the story.

We have been loving our new modelling area. We have been busy all week making super creations.

“I made a robot!”

“I love making things.”

A Busy Week in P1C!

We have had a super busy week in P1C!

We started off our week learning about Diwali. We enjoyed learning about how Diwali is celebrated and why. We decided to create our own super Rangoli patterns outside using chalks.

“We made Rangoli patterns”

“I liked learning about Diwali!”

“We learnt about how Diwali works”

To celebrate Book Week Scotland, we headed to Mearns Library where we enjoyed hearing stories from our book bags and voting on our favourite story. The highlight of Library visit was of course getting our book bags. We want to say a big thank you to Lily and Lucas Dad for joining us on our visit.

“We went to library because it was Scottish book week.”

“We went to the library because at book week you read loads of books and the library has lots of books in it.”

“We got bags with books to read!”

Also this week to celebrate Book Week Scotland, our buddies joined us to create our own Supertato out of potatoes and different materials. Supertato has been our story of the week and we loved getting to design our own special Supertato with our buddies.

“We made Supertato with our buddies!”

Outdoors this week with Miss Hutchison we had a great time creating our very own water slides. We had to constantly check our design to make sure the water could flow down the slide and ensure there wasn’t any gaps for the water to sneak out of. As you can see, we built some really super water slides!

“We made a water slide and water ramps.”

“We made HUGE water slides!”
