EWHCF Class of 2024

P3A Week of 18th November 2019

This week we have enjoyed taking part in Road Safety Week and Book Week Scotland.

Some of us in Primary 3 paired up with Primary 7 to read together. We brought in our favourite books from home and read a little bit of each. We discussed our books and why they were our favourites. Mrs Agnew and Miss Kelly heard some very interesting conversations. It was a success and we all loved reading for enjoyment!

In maths, the Squares have been learning about bar graphs. We carried out our own surveys, coming up with some very original ideas, and completed our survey with others in our group. We then created our own bar graphs. It was important to put a title on our bar graph, label both axis’ and choose a suitable scale. The Triangles have continued with subtraction and have been using concrete materials to help support their understanding. The Circles and Rectangles have begun writing addition vertical calculations in their jotters. Mrs Agnew was very impressed at how neat our work was.

In literacy, we have been learning about connectives. Mrs Agnew gave us sentences with a missing word and we had to put the correct connective in. We have been developing our comprehension skills by answering literal and inferential questions about different types of texts. The Hedgehogs have been focusing on non-fiction texts.

We researched different charities that we may want to raise money for in relation to our topic Needs and Wants. We each picked a charity and found its website online. We found out what the charity does and why it is important. We now know about lots of different charities and will work together to decide which charities we would like to raise money for.

We started our new science topic, the Sun, Moon and Stars. We discussed what we already know about the topic and what we would like to learn. We watched a video about the first people to land on the moon, which happened 50 years ago. We then had a bit of fun, packing our suitcases for the Moon. We had to consider what was important to take. There were lots of amazing ideas such as a spacesuits, tools to help us, food and a fridge to keep it fresh, a TV or computer to keep us entertained and lots of us chose to take family and friends.
