Online Numeracy and Literacy Events for Parents and Carers

Hello everyone.

I hope you are all doing well.

The National Parent Forum of Scotland (NPFS) is working in partnership with ‘Count on Us’ Education with the support of Education Scotland to bring 8 online numeracy and mathematics events for parents in June 2020.

The first event is scheduled to take place on Friday 5th June from 10.00am – 10.45am.

These events are free and will focus on the interactive and visual methods to help parents support their children with numeracy and maths at home. The sessions are intended for parents with children currently working at First or Second Level within CfE.

Please follow the link below to sign up/register for the relevant sessions.

Good Morning!

Welcome back all!

I hope you and your family are well.

Today’s work has been posted on the classroom and they should be able to tackle themselves.

Not all the tasks require an attachment to be uploaded, but if you could remind your child to press “Hand In” or “Submit” beside the task, even if it’s done in a jotter, that would be very helpful.

Any issues with the tasks can be addressed in the class streams. If you need to ask a question about the tasks – that is the best way to contact me – I will answer asap.

Also, a quick reminder of the fact that the Twinkl educational site is free to access during the Scottish school closures. There is a range of work available to download and print across the curriculum and stages if you are looking for some extra work for your child.

Thanks everyone.

Mr C

Good Morning!

Good morning.

Today’s work has been posted on the classroom. I hope you have had a chance to work with your child at some point last week – if not, they have a lot of tasks that they are more than able to tackle themselves.

Not all the tasks require an attachment to be uploaded, but if you could remind your child to press “Hand In” or “Submit” beside the task, it helps me keep a track of who is doing what and allows me to easily look at any work that has been attached. Thank you.

Any issues with the tasks can be addressed in the class streams. If you need to ask a question about the tasks – that is the best way to contact me – I will answer asap.

Here is a link to the Twinkl educational site. I have also posted the link on the Classroom. It has opened up the paid subscription section of the site for free during the Scottish school closures.
There is a range of work available to download and print across the curriculum and stages if you are looking for some extra work for your child.
This is in no way an endorsement of Twinkl  – please feel free to do as much or as little as you want. (or none at all)

Remember Joe Wick’s PE sessions daily at 9am. There are many excellent Youtubers doing great educational content too, as I’m sure you will have seen on social media.

Thanks everyone.

Mr C

Good Morning

Happy Friday!

Today’s work has been posted on the classroom. I really enjoyed reading all the great personal accounts of their week. Thank you for supporting their writing yesterday. Again, please don’t stress about completing work if your current home situation does not allow it.

It seems like the children are becoming more confident using the Google classroom but for clarity: You can access it through the tile on Glow. It is compatible with Windows, Chromebooks, iOS and Android devices. Everyone has working passwords and login details – they should have a note of them in their diary. There are still a few individuals who have not yet joined the classes. Just press “Accept” and please don’t stress if you find a lot of overdue work. Next week is a new week!

Any issues with the tasks can be addressed in the class streams. If you need to ask a question about the tasks – that is the best way to contact me – I will answer asap.

I am 5 for 5 with Joe Wick’s PE sessions daily at 9am!  Please remember the Glasgow Science Centre at Home at 10am is available this week too. There are many excellent Youtubers doing great educational content too, as I’m sure you will have seen on social media.

Week 1 nearly done!

Thanks again for all your great work at this tricky time.

Mr C

Good Morning!

Hello and good morning to you.

Today’s work on the classroom will be a writing piece and a Sumdog competition. There is also a chance to catch up on any tasks that are due Thursday or Friday. Please don’t stress about completing any work – I would rather you settle into a mutually agreeable routine. Things can always be handed in late.

Hopefully the Google Classroom space is becoming a bit more familiar now. Just to recap: You can access it through the tile on Glow. It is compatible with Windows, Chromebooks, iOS and Android devices. Everyone has working passwords and login details – they should have a note of them in their diary. There are still a few individuals who have not yet joined the classes. Just press “Accept”.

Any issues with the tasks can be addressed in the class streams. If you need to ask a question about the tasks – that is the best way to contact me – I will answer asap.

I hope you have been managing to get out for your one daily exercise or at least have been doing Joe Wick’s PE sessions daily at 9am. There is also the  Glasgow Science Centre at Home at 10am which have proved popular.

Have a great day.

Mr C

Good Morning!

Good morning all. I trust this finds you safe and well.

I hope your child has established a good balance of schoolwork/freeplay. Hopefully you have seen that your child can do most of the work independently – please encourage them to do so. They can use their jotters and technology or any materials they have at home – feel free to send/not send any pictures of the things they have been up to.

By now, most people have accessed our Google Classroom space. Remember you can access it through the tile on Glow. It is compatible with Windows, Chromebooks, iOS and Android devices. Everyone has working passwords and login details – they should have a note of them in their diary. I have resent invitations to a few individuals who had not yet joined the classes. Just press “Accept”.

Any issues with the tasks can be addressed in the class streams. Please encourage your child to think if they already know the answer to any questions they may ask “Can I colour it in?” is a classic easy answer! Remember to press “hand in” on each task to show me at a glance it has been completed.

I hope you have been enjoying Joe Wick’s PE sessions daily at 9am and  Glasgow Science Centre at Home at 10am.

Thanks for your continued support.

Mr C

Good Morning!

Good morning. I hope you and your family are doing well.

I will keep posting instructions and advice here for this week. Please try and keep a balance in your household – do what you can with your children as and when. Hopefully your child can do most of the work independently, but please feel free to take their learning in other directions. They are very capable of doing DIY work (not the home improvement kind yet!)

Hopefully yesterday you were able to access our Google Classroom space. If not, you can access it through the tile on Glow. It is compatible with Windows, Chromebooks, iOS and Android devices. Everyone has working passwords and login details – they should have a note of them in their diary. I have resent invitations to a few individuals who had not yet joined the classes. Just press “Accept”

Your child (or you) can ask questions in the Google Classroom Stream – I will try to address any questions asap. Please try to encourage your child to only ask questions about tasks they may have. They don’t need to indicate they have done the task in that stream – they can press “hand in” on each task to show it has been completed.

I would still recommend Joe Wick’s PE sessions daily at 9am and  Glasgow Science Centre at Home at 10am. A great way to start the day.

Thanks to everyone for your positive energy and hard work. I hope you have a peaceful day.

Mr C

Good Morning!

Good morning to you all. I hope you and your family are well.

I will be posting instructions and advice here for this week. Please try and keep a balance in your household – please do whatever works for you. It will take some time for all of us to bed in to this way of working – progress, not perfection!

Most of your child’s work will be on their Google Classroom space. They can access it through the tile on Glow. It should be compatible with Windows, Chromebooks, iOS and Android devices. All children have working passwords and login details – they should have a note of them in their diary.

Your child (or you) can ask questions in the Google Classroom Stream – I will try to address any questions asap.

A lot of great learning opportunities can be accessed online, as you know. A few ongoing recommendations would be Joe Wick’s PE sessions daily at 9am (I will be doing them too!) And every day at 10am –  Glasgow Science Centre at Home

Thank you for your support and solidarity.

Jane Blonde – Whole book for Friday

The Knife – all for Friday

Fossils – Whole book for Friday

At The Seaside – Whole book for Friday

STEM

We will continue to do our STEM homework this week (hand in on Thursday) I refer you to last week’s post by the STEM committee:

“Homework for STEM week is to take part in this STEM selfie challenge.  The idea for this challenge was created by the STEM committee and it is to encourage children to engage in STEM activities outside of school.

Children should take a selfie doing something related to Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths, print the picture and write their NAME, HOUSE and CLASS on the back of the picture.

They should bring this into school where we will create a display board of all the selfies.  The STEM committee will judge and select an overall first, second and third place winners.  They will receive point for their house.  Family pictures are more than welcome but please ensure each child has a copy of their picture to submit.  Please bring pictures to school by Thursday 19th March.

Good luck and happy STEM-ing J

Alex, Aisha & William P.7″

Maths

Following the success of last week’s efforts , we will run another class SumDog competition this week! Please use your login in your diary to compete against your maths group! There will be an overall prize and a prize for each maths group winner. Please complete the suggested tasks by Friday.

Thanks
