AAC@IMS Communication Club

Thank you to everyone who came to AAC@IMS communication club last night.
We hope you found it informative and useful for both children and adults.

Remember you can view the handout form Tracey Campbell on one of our handouts link.

Have a look at some of our photos from last night.

Here are a list of a few apps that you might find useful to support your child during communication and literacy skills.

These apps can be found on the app store on iTunes.

pictello-iconPictello – make up stories for the AAC user to read and share, can add videos and photos to the books for personalisation. Pictello is the only app with text to speech facility, switch accessibility and the ability to download Tar Heel Reader books directly. The wizard makes it very easy.

story creatorWith Story Creator you can easily create beautiful story books containing photos, videos, text, and audio all in one gorgeous collection. Story Creator truly brings your best stories to life and easily allows you to retell and share your most memorable moments.

book-creatorBook Creator – allows multiple photos, text boxes and video per page and book can be exported to ibooks. This is one of the few good story apps available on Android. Although not speech generating, you can add your own voice.

storybuddyStorybuddy2 – Storybook Creator for iPad – you can create, read and share multi-page ePub & PDF stories right on the iPad. You can also record and manage audio narrative for each page.

GTN-ACGotalkNow app – can buy the communication pages to go along with this but even if you don’t it can be a good way to share a lot of information before the communication device is being used fluently. This app has much more flexibility than the others and allows the user to be more in charge of the direction that the conversation is going in. It is much more expensive than the other apps though.

mystory2My Story – you  can draw, take pictures, add text, even narrate their own story! Great for early learners.

little stars learning story creator appLearning Story Creator – Features include the ability to insert photos from your camera or album (use iPad square photo setting for best integration with pdf and visual supports-see below), edit your text, record audio, edit saved stories (up to 8 stories), and share stories in PDF format via email.

our storyOur Story – allows you to insert photographs and audio. This fun app developed by psychologists enables young children to take part in fun games which can help develop interests and skills that will be relevant to them when they start to read.
