The University of Dundee will be hosting online open days on the 31^st August and 26^th September. Further information can be found on our website HERE

These virtual events will give students, advisers and parents the opportunity to engage with our academic staff, welcoming students and world class facilities all from the comfort of their own homes! DYW have an exciting opportunity for the young people of Scotland that we would like you to know about.

We are hosting a week-long series of interactive virtual webinar episodes. DYW Up2U runs from 24^th-28^th August. DYW Up2U is aimed primarily at 2020 summer and winter school leavers. However, the content is relevant to any young person (16-24) or parents/carers seeking insight into a variety of pathways and next steps.

Over the week we will broadcast five live webinar sessions of panel discussions with industry professionals, young people and specialists. Facilitated by comedian and keynote speaker Gavin Oattes, there will be 20 minutes of discussion with our panellists followed by a live Q&A where young people will have the opportunity to interact and ask questions.

Our School of Nursing, Midwifery & Paramedic Practice is hosting a Midwifery Virtual Insight Afternoon on Thursday, 20^th August between 1pm and 5pm. This event, which is highly commended from the Royal College of Midwives, is ideal for any senior students who are considering a career in Midwifery. Interested students will get the chance to learn more about the role and the essential skills of a midwife.

The event will involve a series of interactive workshops ranging from ‘A day in the life of a Student Midwife/Midwife’, ‘What Midwives do’ through to ‘Midwifery Applications: Top Tips’. There are a total of five workshops.

Following the announcement last week on revisions to SQA results, the SDS Results Helpline service, originally scheduled to close on 12th August, will remain open until 28th August.   

 

The helpline will continue to offer support to young people (including school leavers) and their parents and carers in East Renfrewshire for this extended period. Careers advisers can provide reassurance as well as information and advice on Confirmation and Clearing as well as other options available.   

 

The dedicated Results Helpline will be available until Friday 28th August, from 9am to 5pm, on weekdays.

I have just watched John Swinney make his parliamentary statement regarding the SQA moderation and welcome news that teachers’ original estimated grades will now be awarded. There may be pupils within your respective schools who will have been rejected by the University of Glasgow based on the grades awarded last week.

Can I please ask you to let your pupils know we would welcome pupils getting in touch with us regarding their offers to study at Glasgow. They will be considered for entry again. Some of them will have accepted their insurance options elsewhere. Admissions will be able to advise individual applicants of any actions they will need to take to have their application reconsidered by us.

I would be happy to receive any inquiries from you, parents or pupils and the WP team will work with Admissions to ensure any applicants who wish to have their application considered again in light of receiving their new grades, will have this done.

Thanks as always for your help and I hope we can help your young people to progress to their university of choice based on the grades they merit.
