No January blues for P4b!

We have been making diagrams to solve hard problems and we made our own flags.

In RME we have been exploring Sikhism. We have discovered that Sikhs do not cut their hair and wear a special bracelet to remind them not to do anything bad. We know the names of the 5 Ks – ask us to explain it to you!

We have been learning about Knights and Castles, and know that you would start as a page, then become a squire and finally a knight (who would serve the King!). We made our own coat of arms and can tell you what the colours and animal symbols mean.

In ICT, we have been very busy sending and replying to messages from our classmates using the e-mail system in Glow. We also beat lots of classes at Sumdog!

We have been using the ExPLORE strategies to research for information about Robert Burns on the internet. We then took the facts we had found and made a leaflet

We have been very gymnastic in PE doing Parkour, focusing on balance and control.

Awesome Achievements in November!

P4b are exceedingly helpful around the house. We have been making pasta, potatoes, birthday cake and even the bed! We have also been looking after our siblings and animals.

In sport we have been improving our gymnastics skills, captaining rugby teams, spin chopping at tennis, butterflying in the pool and scoring the goal of the game! We have even caught our first fish (and put it back!).

We have also been academic, learning the 8 times table on Sumdog at home, using Microsoft Word without a mouse, reading an awful lot, drawing cartoons, learning our choir song and playing Christmas carols on the piano.

We are very proud of how much we have achieved in so many different ways.

Awesome Achievements in January!

P4b are wonderfully confident, successful and responsible contributors to society. We have had loads of success at sport, including climbing, basketball, swimming and skiing. We are helping at home and becoming more independent. We are learning lots – new skills and old, including cooking, typing and drawing.

Busy December blog

We have been really busy (as usual!) in December.
We have been exploring different tones, making blended backgrounds in hot or cold colours and then drawing silhouettes on top.
We have been discovering how different countries celebrate Christmas and we presented our findings to each other via posters.
We have found out how our number system evolved and even tried out calculations in ancient number systems!
We are looking forward to finding out more about strawberries in the coming months …

Eating potatoes together!

In November we learnt how to describe where potatoes come from and when they are harvested. (Did you know that potatoes have grown on the moon?!) We prepared our own potatoes, peeled them and then ate them all together – they tasted scrumptious! We felt so excited that we could eat what we had made and we felt so happy because we could finally eat them, and enjoy the experience with our friends!

Do you know that in Peru people call potatoes papa?

Did you know that you can get all different types, shapes and colours of potatoes?

We know that the potatoes at the Albert Bartlett factory are washed in recycled rainwater from the factory roof!

We finished our learning by writing a letter of thanks to the dinner ladies who had helped us make the mashed potatoes – we couldn’t have done it without them!

Awesome Achievements in October!

P4b have been incredibly sporty in October.

Our achievements include running in the Great Scottish Run, getting up to adventures in swimming pools, skating on scooters, being gymnasts and star dancers.

We have helped our families around the house and cared for our pets.

We have been very confident and spoke Italian in Italy and are learning more Spanish.

We even made a Cub Promise this month.

We are very proud of ourselves.

P4b’s super September Blog

In RME, we have been learning about the Jewish festival of Rosh Hashanah. We showcased our learning during our class assembly on Friday 11th September by performing songs and talking about the Jewish New Year.
We discussed how the festival is about forgiveness. People forgive each other and have a second chance to make things better in the coming year. They throw their bad deeds away and start afresh.
We were creative and made our own shofars to blow, which make a tooting sound that is a wake-up call to Jewish people when they are praying for forgiveness in the synagogue.
We discovered that some important symbolic foods are apple, honey, challah (which is round at this time of year, not pleated!), carrot stew and honey cake.
We also learnt that Rosh Hashanah is Hebrew for the head of the year.
Our assembly was quite amazing – we performed like stars, but also have so much knowledge about this festival – if you see us, ask us!

Awesome Achievers’ Blog!

Primary 4b are REALLY awesome – and we have achieved an awful lot since the start of school!
A lot of the class mentioned how proud they were of their performances at the Assembly – we were wonderful!
Many of our parents are impressed with how helpful we have been at home and with our family members.
We have loads of sporting achievements, including rugby, cycling, gymnastics, swimming, football and even lego!
We are majestic musicians too!

P3b’s Blog

As part of our topic about the Egyptians our class visited the Burrell Collection in Pollok Park. We learned some fascinating facts. Here are some of our favourites

  • Matthew: ‘Some people shaved their heads to stay cool and clean’.
  • Ellis: ‘We learned that canopic jars don’t balance and were used for storing water’.
  • Emily: ‘We learned that the eye makeup that the Egyptians wore was to protect their eyes from the sand’.

In Science we have been having great fun learning about our skeletons and our hearts and lungs.

We all know how to keep our bodies healthy.
