Marvellous May

In PE we have been playing tennis, learning how important rhythm and timing are. We are actually tennis superstars as Ellis, Erin and Kyle (plus Heather from next door!) won (and I mean WON!!) a cluster tennis tournament and have gone through to the final!!

This term we have been running a mile EVERY day, not just on Mondays. Thankfully it hasn’t been too rainy. We are getting quicker at it. Mustafa just loves running round the playground!

We have also been practising for Sports’ Day – don’t forget to come and see us race!

We are all Sun Safe Superstars, learning what to wear to protect ourselves when it is sunny. As Zara has told us, Slip, Slop, Slap to stay safe in the sun.

In RME, we have been learning about the five pillars of Islam. Kimberley has enjoyed finding out why Muslims worship as they do and Hamzah has been helping by reading his prayers out to the class.

Emily has loved making our huge 3-D wall map of Scotland.  Travis’s group made a key so that everyone can understand the map.  Iona’s group showed where the countryside is on our beautiful land. Aidan’s group made built-up areas to show where there is no longer countryside! Mairi’s group made the hills and mountains (and loved putting snow on Ben Nevis!). Matthew’s group showed where all the cities are situated. Ruaridh’s group made the lochs and rivers (and Daisy even brought in a wee Loch Ness monster for the map!). Hamish realised they would have to work well as a team in their group, and with the other groups, to make the map look accurate and eye-catching.

Euan has enjoyed taking the mapping a little wider and exploring Europe – in French! We can all name a lot of the European countries en Francais and are looking forward to translating the commentary on Euro ’16!

Article 30: If you come from a minority group you have the right to enjoy your own culture, practice your own religion and use your own language.

Article 31: You have the right to play and relax by doing things like sport.

No January blues for P4b!

We have been making diagrams to solve hard problems and we made our own flags.

In RME we have been exploring Sikhism. We have discovered that Sikhs do not cut their hair and wear a special bracelet to remind them not to do anything bad. We know the names of the 5 Ks – ask us to explain it to you!

We have been learning about Knights and Castles, and know that you would start as a page, then become a squire and finally a knight (who would serve the King!). We made our own coat of arms and can tell you what the colours and animal symbols mean.

In ICT, we have been very busy sending and replying to messages from our classmates using the e-mail system in Glow. We also beat lots of classes at Sumdog!

We have been using the ExPLORE strategies to research for information about Robert Burns on the internet. We then took the facts we had found and made a leaflet

We have been very gymnastic in PE doing Parkour, focusing on balance and control.

Awesome Achievements in November!

P4b are exceedingly helpful around the house. We have been making pasta, potatoes, birthday cake and even the bed! We have also been looking after our siblings and animals.

In sport we have been improving our gymnastics skills, captaining rugby teams, spin chopping at tennis, butterflying in the pool and scoring the goal of the game! We have even caught our first fish (and put it back!).

We have also been academic, learning the 8 times table on Sumdog at home, using Microsoft Word without a mouse, reading an awful lot, drawing cartoons, learning our choir song and playing Christmas carols on the piano.

We are very proud of how much we have achieved in so many different ways.

Awesome Achievements in January!

P4b are wonderfully confident, successful and responsible contributors to society. We have had loads of success at sport, including climbing, basketball, swimming and skiing. We are helping at home and becoming more independent. We are learning lots – new skills and old, including cooking, typing and drawing.

Eating potatoes together!

In November we learnt how to describe where potatoes come from and when they are harvested. (Did you know that potatoes have grown on the moon?!) We prepared our own potatoes, peeled them and then ate them all together – they tasted scrumptious! We felt so excited that we could eat what we had made and we felt so happy because we could finally eat them, and enjoy the experience with our friends!

Do you know that in Peru people call potatoes papa?

Did you know that you can get all different types, shapes and colours of potatoes?

We know that the potatoes at the Albert Bartlett factory are washed in recycled rainwater from the factory roof!

We finished our learning by writing a letter of thanks to the dinner ladies who had helped us make the mashed potatoes – we couldn’t have done it without them!
