Awesome Achievers – February 2018

February has been a busy month for Primary 6b. Three members of our class participated in East Renfrewshire’s Cross Country Championships. Freya said, ‘It was good because I got to experience running against other schools, I did well as I was motivated by my team mates.’

Niamh said, ‘I think it was good to do something different outwith school.’

Ross said, ‘It was harder than I thought because of the mud and running uphill, although I think I did well overall.’

In Social Studies, we have been continuing with our topic on natural disasters. We researched and then presented Sway presentations on our chosen natural disasters. We have shown confidence in our ICT skills and can confidently capture text, graphics, video and audio from the Internet.  Hamish said, ‘It was good listening to the groups presentations because we got to learn more facts and it was presented in a way in which we could understand.’

In Science, we have been learning all about the body systems. We have confidently demonstrated skills of working in groups and researching relevant topics. Emily said, ‘I am now confident with team work and I learnt the 5 stages of digestion. The Science work has encouraged me to learn more about the body and I would like to know more about the heart.’

In ICT, we are using Microsoft Excel to create databases linked to our natural disasters topic. We are going to use the data to create and format a variety of line and bar graphs.

Daisy commented, “I am looking forward to learning how to create different graphs and pie charts.’

In HWB, we worked in groups to write, act out and film playscripts on peer pressure. It has enabled us to demonstrate our ideas, thoughts and feelings through role play. Ellis said, ‘It was enjoyable how we could create our own play and be more confident with our acting skills.’
