January Blog

January has been a month of achieving for P6b. We are very proud to have taken part in our awesome assembly about respecting and protecting our world. We developed a variety of skills and knowledge: we choreographed a dance, made masks of the earth and wrote our own emotive poems about our amazing planet.

We have been particularly sporty this month, by participating in swimming, rugby and running activities. Freya said, ‘I went to the Emirates to run for my athletics’ club and I am now the Scottish Athletics Indoor League Champion for the under elevens.’

Hamish said, ‘I have been doing very well and persevering at rugby and have been scoring tries.’

Mia said, ‘I have been working hard in developing my skills in life-saving’.

As part of our Scottish themed literacy week we have been learning all about Robert Burns and participating in a variety of cross-curricular activities. We all recited one of his most famous poems called ‘ A Red, Red Rose,’ designed and created our own tartan kilts and also made common craft videos about ‘Tam O’Shanter.’ We had to write a narrative and create our own characters in the form of a silhouette and present to the rest of the class. Daisy said, ‘It was fun learning about Robert Burns and working on our literacy skills.’

In RME, we have investigated a variety of significant figures from around the world. We learned about the life of Nelson Mandela and researched the influences and changes he contributed to.  We have linked our learning to include our school values, in particular: Respect and Inclusivity.

In ICT, we have been linking our learning to Social Studies. We have been using Microsoft Publisher to create leaflets on hurricanes as part of our ‘Natural Disasters’ topic. Emily said, ‘I really enjoyed making leaflets on the computers because it was a fun way of learning and I got to format a picture and design the background.’

We have all worked extremely hard this month and are looking forward to a restful February break!

Literacy and Numeracy

Our learning in these areas will draw upon the contexts listed above but will differ according to the needs of each class/group. Your support with consolidation of core learning through homework activities will be very beneficial to our children.
