Active Start to 2015.

There are lots of new and exciting opportunities this year for all our pupils to be involved in sport and physical activity.  Marie Baxter ( Active School Co-ordinator) has organised many after school clubs that will run in our school as well as clubs that will be held at Woodfarm High School. There are lots of new clubs at Thornliebank this term some include;, Netball, Hockey, Fun Fitness, Football, Basketball and Badminton.   We have lots of staff taking clubs as well as local sports coaches. Many parents also volunteer to assist the coaches as well. We appreciate everyone’s input to making our after school programme fully comprehensive. The Young Leaders in P7 will also be leading a club as part of their assessment.

Many clubs are also running outside the school for our pupils. Mrs Baxter our Active School Co-ordinator works closely with Woodfarm P.E department and we have been lucky to offer our children lots of clubs that we could not facilitate. This term there is a Tri-Athlon club & Volleyball club for P6/7 and a Table Tennis club for P3/4 and P5-7. The P.E teachers from Woodfarm will take the clubs and the sports on offer are delivered during P.E so it is a great opportunity for our primary pupils to get a taster and learn the skills involved in each sport.

The Ski programme has proved to be very popular this year. Over 90 children across the 3 primary schools have signed up.  We are very fortunate that Mrs Baxter organises this for our pupils as it has been a huge hit over the past 3 years.  The ski programme starts week beginning Monday 26th January 2015 and will run over 3 different nights; Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays at Bellahouston Ski Centre. Many pupils who attended the ski programme who are now at Woodfarm recently visited Austria with the school on a ski trip. The pupils who attend the primary ski lessons will be invited to a fun ski session at the end of the block and parents can attend as well. Letters will be issued nearer the time.

If you would like to volunteer at any of the clubs or events please contact the school office or Marie Baxter for more information.

Primary 1 Enrolment. 12th – 16th January 2015

Registering Your Child for Primary 1 for August 2015

East Renfrewshire Council has set up one week when you should register your son or daughter at your local primary school for school education in East Renfrewshire. You must register at your catchment school, even if you intend to make a placing request to another school or to defer your place and keep your son or daughter at home for another year.

If you intend to educate your child privately or at home you should still register at your local catchment school.

You may choose to enrol your son or daughter in either the local denominational or local non denominational school. This choice will determine the secondary school to which your child will transfer.

If he or she is aged five between 1 March 2015 and the end of February 2016 you should go along to the primary school between 1.30 and 3.30 any day during the week of Monday 12 January to Friday 16 January 2015.

You should bring your son or daughter’s birth certificate, your child benefit statement, a copy of your current council tax notice, and mortgage statement or rental agreement. The school can also accept, Driving Licence, Utility Bill or Bank Statement if the child benefit statement is unavailable.

Talent ID

Talent ID Day: Saturday 15th February

East Renfrewshire’s Active School Team and Swimming Development have organised in partnership with Scottish Disability Sport their annual Talent Identification Day. This is an opportunity for young people across East Renfrewshire who have a physical disability or visual impairment to come along and participate in a number of sports delivered by top coaches from around Scotland.

The event if for pupils aged 9-25 years and will be held at the NEW Eastwood High Sports Centre from 12.15-3pm. The last few years have been a great success so we hope we can build on the success from that and get more young people involved in sports. The pupils will be taking part in JUDO, Basketball and Swimming. Coaches will identify anyone that could potentially compete at a Local and National level.
