Weekly Prayers

Monday 14 January 2019.

The Feast of St Mungo is usually celebrated on 13 January but as this was a Sunday this year, the Feast has been moved to today.

He was the 6th century apostle of the Kingdom of Strathclyde in Scotland and patron saint and founder of the city of Glasgow. Saint Mungo performed four religious miracles in Glasgow.  The following verse is used to remember St. Mungo’s four miracles.

Here is the bird that never flew.

Here is the tree that never grew.

Here is the bell that never rang.

Here is the fish that never swam.

Let us pray together for the people of Glasgow and its local area. We pray that the faith of St Mungo will inspire them to bring the Gospel to all.

Our Father………..

Tuesday 15 January 2019.

Next week on Tuesday 22 January we have our Holy Hour for Vocations and we hope that pupils, staff and families will come to pray for this very important intention.

Trying to discover what we should do with our lives is not an easy task. We pray for God’s help at those times in life when we need to make a decision about our vocation.

Lord, I thank You for the gifts You have given me, especially for life, love, family and friends.  Help me to know myself better and to know my talents, as I pray, study and decide on my life’s work.  Help me to see and understand the path You open for me. Help me choose a life’s work which will be in response to my potential and your love for me.

If I am being invited to follow You as a priest, brother, sister, give me a generous heart to respond to your challenging call and the strength to follow You wherever You lead me.

Our Father……..

Wednesday 16 January 2019.

As we begin this day, we ask God to fill us with his Spirit and to guide us in his love throughout the day.

Father, you fill the Hearts of the Faithful with your Spirit. You send us the light of the Holy Spirit. Help us to use the gifts of knowledge, understanding, right judgement and courage in all that we do today. We pray that in our actions others will see your love in their lives.

Memorial of St Anthony, abbot

St. Anthony, the father of monks, retired to the desert at about the age of eighteen in order to live in perfect solitude.  “His was a perfectly purified soul. No pain could annoy him, no pleasure bind him. In him was neither laughter nor sadness. The sight of the crowd did not trouble him and the warm greetings of so many men did not move him. In a word, he was thoroughly immune to the vanities of the world, like a man unswervingly governed by reason, established in inner peace and harmony.”

We pray for those in monastic life and pray for a resurgence of vocations to this life. We pray that in our very busy lives we may find true peace and contentment in a good relationship with God and our neighbour.

Friday 18 January 2019.

In his letter for World Peace Day on 1 January 2019, Pope Francis called for people to join in ‘a great project of peace’ to bring true peace, the Peace of Christ to our World. This us commit ourselves to join this ‘great project of peace’.

Almighty and eternal God,

may Your grace enkindle in all of us

a love for the many unfortunate people,

whom poverty and misery reduce to a condition of life unworthy of human beings.

Arouse in the hearts of those who call You Father

a hunger and thirst for social justice

and for fraternal charity in deeds and in truth.

Grant, O Lord, peace in our days:

peace to souls,

peace in families,

and peace among nations.

Amen

Let us pray together,

Our Father…
