Weekly Prayers
Monday 7 January 2019.
Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of The Epiphany when we recall the visit of the Wise Men to the stable in Bethlehem. Epiphany means showing. As a group, the Wise Men represented the whole of humanity and this showing revealed Jesus as the saviour of all humanity.
Each of the gifts tells us something about this new born baby. The gold reminds us that he is a king but not of this world. Frankincense was used in offerings to God and shows us that Jesus was indeed God. The gift of myrrh predicts the death and suffering of Jesus to save us from our sins. Jesus is shown to us to believe in him; to accept him as our God, our King and our Saviour.
In this way as in all aspects of our life, God calls upon us to live a life following him. As well as our own intentions, we pray for those who are called to respond to the ‘showing’ of Christ through the priesthood and religious life.

Tuesday 8 January 2019.
The start of a New Year offers every one of us the opportunity for spiritual reflection. On the one hand we remember to thank God for all the gifts which we received during the previous year and secondly we ask him to continue to watch over us in 2019.
We thank you Lord Jesus for the gifts you have bestowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage. Our food and shelter, our health, the love we have for one another, our family and friends.
In your infinite generosity, Father please grant us continued graces and blessing throughout the coming year.
This we ask in the name of Jesus, your Son and our brother. Amen.
Let us ask our God for his support in 2019.

Wednesday 9 January 2019.
In a busy school and when home life is also busy, we can forget the importance of patience and being kind to others. Today let us pray to have more patience and gentleness.
Bestow on me, O Lord,
a genial spirit and unwearied forbearance;
a mild, loving, patient, heart;
kindly looks, pleasant cordial speech, and manners
in the exchanges of daily life;
that I may give offence to none,
but as much as in lies,
live in charity with all people.

Thursday 10 January 2019.
A school is one community and as such we all need to work together, both pupils and staff, to achieve success. Let us pray that the Catholic community, which we are all part of, gives us the strength to work together.
Spirit of God, fill our hearts with a desire to seek truth and rejoice in beauty.
Help us to know what is pleasing to You and to understand what is right and good in Your sight.
Give us the Spirit of Learning that we may please You by our thoughts and love You in Your creation.
Give all teachers Your constant encouragement and guide them in their good work.
Spirit of God, make us effective witnesses of Your truth to all whose lives we touch. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

Friday 11 January 2019.
On the 13 January we would normally celebrate the Feast of St Mungo, the Sixth Century Patron Saint of Glasgow. Mungo is known for his work in helping to consolidate Christianity in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. The motto of Glasgow is based on a prayer of St Mungo : ‘Lord let Glasgow flourish through the preaching of thy word and praising thy name.’
Today, we pray that inspired by the heroic and brave works of Mungo we will work to let not only Glasgow flourish but our World flourish by our preaching of the Word of God and the praising of his name.
