Weekly Prayers

Tuesday 8 May 2018.

Today, we shall be focussing on the theme of ‘Vocation’, with a particular emphasis on praying for an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and Religious life.

For vocations to the priesthood and the religious life
may we be open to God’s call.

For priests and religious, may their lives bear fruit in plenty.

O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love,

impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth

that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God.

Give them courage and strength to follow God’s holy will.

Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labour in God’s holy service.
Amen.

Hail Mary…….

Wednesday 9 May 2018.

O Mary, my dear Mother, how much I love thee! And yet in reality how little! You teach me what I ought to know, for you teach me what Jesus is to me and what I ought to be for Jesus. Dearly beloved Mother, how close to God thou art, and how utterly filled with Him! In the measure that we know God, we remind ourselves of thee. Mother of God, obtain for me the grace of loving my Jesus; obtain for me the grace of loving thee!

We ask Our Lady to join in our prayers especially for those who are being called to the priesthood or religious life.

Amen

Hail Mary………

Thursday 10 May  2018.

The New Testament tells us that Jesus ascended from the earth and was enfolded by a cloud. The disciples were left for a while staring upwards to see what would happen next. Mankind is still full of curiosity about what is up above us and we stare out into space with an array of complicated instruments that examine the composition of the universe, its history and its extent. We look across billions of miles of space and billions of years of history, all interesting and worthy of study. The first Russian astronaut reported that he had seen no sign of God during his time up in space. That wasn’t surprising, as Jesus’ final message to his disciples was not to look up to the heavens but to live his message on earth. He wanted his words to be passed to all of humankind and his instruction to ‘love your neighbour’ to be put into practice for the good of all. Our first task in our lifetime must be to make the best of the world in which we live. Even a brief look at the world will tell us that we still have much to do.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you came down to lift us up; you descended that we might ascend. Help us to put your message into practice. Give us a vision of how you want our world to be so that in the time given us we may transform the earth by working for the good of all mankind.

Friday 11 May 2018.

Each morning during term-time you set off for school. Some of you may be pleased to come and look forward to what you are going to do during the day; some of you may wish that you could stay at home instead.  However, we must remember that we are blessed in that we are able to have an education where there are millions of children in the world who don’t have that choice.

Prayer

Lord, help us to have a positive attitude towards school and to be grateful for the chance to improve ourselves when there are many in the world who don’t have that chance. Amen.
