TOUT HOMME A UN NOM

This week in classes, RE, PSHE and at Assemblies we will work with our young people preparing for the Holocaust Memorial Day takes place on 27 January each year.

On Tuesday evening there is a memorial event being hosted in St. Ninian’s High School.

It is a time for everyone to pause to remember the millions of people who have been murdered or whose lives have been changed beyond recognition during the HolocaustNazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

27 January marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

In seeking to learn the lessons of the past we recognise that genocide does not just take place on its own, it’s a steady process which can begin if discrimination, racism and hatred are not checked and prevented and when we lose respect for the dignity of all life.

Please take time with your children to reflect how the lessons of the past can inform our lives today and ensure that all work together to create a society where respect for life is at the heart of all we do.

The power of words is the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2018. Words can make a difference – both for good and evil.

The Holocaust Anne Frank

‘I want to go on living even after my death! And that’s why I am so grateful to God for having given me this gift, which I can use to develop myself and to express all that’s in me. When I write I can shake off all my cares; my sorrow disappears; my spirits are revived.’ – Anne Frank, 5 April 1944.

Below are two articles which I hope you will find of value in reflecting on the brutality of the godless regime of the Nazis and to consider how the evil in man can manipulate the minds of others in order to destroy those that it deems unworthy of life.
