Health and Wellbeing in Physical Education

In Physical Education we aim to develop pupils’ Health and Wellbeing in every sense. This week pupils have participated in various events highlighting to them the many benefits of physical activity.

Skipathon (19 September) / Spinathon (20 September)

Our S1 pupils (Skipathon) and S2 pupils (Spinathon) worked extremely hard during both these events. Pupils worked together in classes to skip/cycle for a full day. We would like to thank all S1/S2 pupils who raised funds as part of these events. The funds raised will contribute to the many sporting opportunities offered to pupils in the school.

National Fitness Day (26 September)

On Wednesday 26 September pupils participated in a whole body circuit. Each period 150 pupils worked tirelessly to improve their fitness. This was a great opportunity for pupils to keep fit alongside their peers. They were also spoken to by PE teachers about the benefits of Physical Activity on their Mental Health. More information regarding this can be viewed here.

European Schools Sports Day (28 September)

As part of the ESSD our S1 pupils represented various European countries in different sports (handball, football, hockey, basketball, dance). They competed in these sports to gain points for their class which will contribute to their ‘Class of the Year’ reward scheme points. The class who win the most points will be rewarded with a trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Active Girls Day

On Friday 5 October S1-S6 girls will participate in Active Girls Day. We have invited students from Glasgow City College in to lead our girls in fun fitness sessions. On Active Girls Day we will be celebrating the amazing work going into girls’ sport, the progress around girls’ participation, and encouraging all girls to continue physical activity into adult life.

Photos of all these events can be viewed on our PE Twitter account @stninianshighpe
