Floreat Iuventus

Congratulations to our young people who sat their SQA exams in May and June.  Well done on your notable successes across all subject areas.

The quality of success was outstanding with record breaking results at Higher and continued very high levels of attainment at National 4 and 5, and Advanced Higher.

East Renfrewshire highlighted 172 pupils achieving 5As.  St Ninian’s contributed one third of this total.

A notable achievement was a pupil in S3 achieving Grade A at Advanced Higher Mandarin.

In S4, 68% of all awards were at grade A.  92% at A/B.  95% pass rate.

At S5, 52% of all awards were at grade A.  83% at A/B.  92% pass rate.

The excellent 2015 results continues the exceptional high level of academic performance seen at our school over many years.

Thank you to teaching staff for their tireless commitment and dedication laying the foundation for these outstanding results.  Once again their support for pupils has been invaluable.

Pupil success in Vocational Qualifications was also highly impressive with notable achievements over a very wide range of College placements and school courses.

Particularly notable was the outstanding success in the ‘Human Body Structure’ at SCQF Level 8 with 100% success.

Vocational Education is an area of the curriculum where we are seeing growing pupil interest.  Thank you to our College partners for their support for your young people.

This year will see a record number of pupils participate in the ERC Vocational Programme developing the skills that will enhance further those wider experiences which will prepare our young people for HE, FE and Employment.

When we compare the success of our pupils to our national virtual comparator school it is clear that the school’s performance outstrips the virtual comparator (the new national illustration for school performance across SIMD 1-10).  It is quite evident that those young people from the nationally recognised disadvantaged areas (SIMD Indices 1-5) are performing well beyond the expected virtual comparator performance for similar pupils across Scotland.

These excellent outcomes continue to highlight the fact that young people, whatever their background and personal circumstances, continue to thrive and achieve qualifications in St Ninian’s well above the national benchmark expectation and ERC Targets.

We continue to emphasise at St Ninian’s that learning is lifelong.  The formation of the whole person continues to be our ambition for all of our young people.  Developing the character of our young people through faith, the arts and sciences, drama, music, sport, service and leadership, is something we take immensely seriously.

At the heart of an excellent school is the focus on each individual student.  May this be a year in which, all young people will have the opportunity to flourish through the support and example of teachers and parents and by the grace of God.

Best wishes for 2015-16.

John A Docherty,

Head Teacher.
