Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
A number of cultural events have taken place in the month of September to celebrate Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.
Photographs from each of the events can be viewed via the links below:
Below is the feedback from two of our pupils who attended the events:

“Throughout the month of September, I was honoured to be invited to take part in the many cultural events which our school had to offer. Firstly, we were taken to the Mitchell Theatre, where we watched a Kung Fu and Martial Arts show, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, including amazing performers, such as Zhao Qianjian, who was a martial arts master and even competed in the 2008 Olympic Games. Then, we were given the opportunity to take part in a Chinese painting workshop, led by a professional Chinese artist. We were taught to paint birds, bamboo, and full moon drawings, which are all key elements of traditional Chinese art. This experience helped us to understand that when learning a language is also important to learn about the culture and the customs too. Additionally, we had a party in school, where performances such as poems, songs and presentations were given, helping us to gain further insight into the importance and significance of the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year.”

“At the end of September, we were given the fantastic opportunity to partake in numerous cultural events. Our week began with a Chinese painting class which was led by a professional artist. Fortunately, everyone had the chance to get involved and left with an impressive painting of many common Chinese artistic themes. Our instructor expertly demonstrated this traditional art form; it was undoubtedly a unique and fascinating experience. This event was followed by a thoroughly engaging martial arts performance during which we were lucky enough to be introduced to a world class Wushu master who kindly taught us the basics of this popular sport. Our rather eventful week was concluded with a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival which included several enthralling presentations and performances. This was a particularly interesting event and we learned a great deal about historical Chinese customs and commemorations.”
