S4 Supported Study Programme Term 1
We will be offering a short programme of supported study over the next two weeks in preparation for our diet of prelim examinations in January. As you can see this will provide our young people with the opportunity to attend a range of subjects before Christmas, and this will be supplemented by a more extensive timetable of classes when we return in the New Year. In addition we will be offering a considerable Easter School programme prior to the main SQA exams which commence in May.
All pupils have been provided with details of the programmes relevant to them. Details are also available on the school website. Individual departments have informed students of their supported study arrangements and are targeting those pupils who would benefit most from this support.
It is important to recognise that Supported Study is just one aspect which underpins pupil learning in St. Ninian’s. Teaching staff make themselves on an informal basis before school, at lunchtimes and at the end of school day to assist our pupils and I know that our pupils very much appreciate this support. In addition departments have been allocated additional teaching staff which allows them to set-up additional sections and also provide group/individual support for pupils. As stated previously we will also be running our Easter School Camp, the schedule for which will be issued at the start of March.
Last Friday you would have received individual Progress Reports for your son/daughter and these reports will assist in identifying the areas where your child requires support. This message will be further reinforced to S4 parents during the Parents’ Evening on Thursday 5 December. Supported study offers the perfect opportunity to receive that support and I would, firstly urge our pupils to attend, and secondly to target the subjects where this support is most needed.
