HPV and MMR Vaccine
HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Immunisation Programme
On Monday 15th January 2024 the HPV vaccination will be administered by NHS staff to S1 Girls and S1 Boys in school. This vaccine will protect them against serious diseases and different cancers.
Your child will have received in school an NHS parent information and consent pack, which explains the HPV immunisation programme. Please ensure that you have completed and returned the consent form for your child’s HPV Immunisation to the school office .
This allows the NHS Immunisation Team and school staff to facilitate the Immunisations and avoids delay and further disruption to the school day. Nurses have to make contact with parents on the day of the Immunisation to seek consent if the consent form has not been returned. If your child has lost the consent pack you can write a note of consent with your child’s name and date of birth . Your child should bring the note with them on Monday to give to the nurse.
Catch Up session
NHS nurses will also offer the HPV Immunisation to girls and boys in S2 , S3, S4 ,S5 and girls in S6 who have not previously been immunised. Only girls in S6 are eligible for the HPV vaccination as the programme had not been extended to include boys in this year group.
For S2-S6 pupils NHS staff will refer to the completed consent forms completed for the First Dose so there is no need to complete an additional consent for your child’s HPV Immunisation.
MMR Vaccine
MMR catch up Immunisation will also be offered to S1 pupils and other pupils in S2-S6 who have not already received 2 doses of the MMR Vaccine.
Pupils should attend school on Monday wearing a short-sleeved shirt or their PE polo shirt underneath their shirt.
Please ensure that pupils eat breakfast before coming to school and have plenty of water to keep hydrated.
