Dear Parent / Carer,
Following the First Minister’s announcement, selected pupils in S4-6 will return on the 22nd February to complete practical work that is required for their course award. Further information will be provided soon detailing dates and times for those pupils who should attend. All other courses will continue online until we receive confirmation from the Scottish Government of when pupils can return to school. In the meantime, it is important that all students engage with their online learning and continue to revise for the assessments that will take place once pupils are back at school.
Many pupils have asked if we can confirm the dates of these assessments. Unfortunately, until we know a return date of pupils, we cannot assign these dates. As soon as the Scottish Government confirms this date, we will be in touch to provide dates for the assessments. We will endeavour to provide pupils with time in class with their teacher before the assessments however this will be dependent on when we return as we may be restricted by the time we have left to gather evidence.
The assessments will be important to provide us with evidence to form the Provisional Estimate Grades that will be sent to SQA. Evidence must be validated internally by the department and may be subject to Local Authority Moderation. We are also required to send this evidence to SQA if they request this; it is therefore important that the appropriate pieces of evidence are selected to form part of the Provisional Estimate Grade. Unlike previous years the evidence must be based on the evidence gathered; there is no scope for inferred judgement at this stage. Further information can be accessed here: https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/95157.html
With this information in mind, it is crucial that our young people study on a regular basis and are fully prepared for their assessments. Pupils should be working through past papers and use the marking scheme to aid their studies. I encourage pupils to actively ask their teachers for clarification/support if they are unsure.
Attached to this email you will find the course assessment overview. This information has been put together as a guide to support your son or daughter to plan their studies in preparation for their assessments. We would have liked to have been in a position to provide a definitive response for all courses, however, the information is subject to change as the assessment content will be dependent on the date that we return to school. When the return date is confirmed, pupils will be provided with an update and further clarification from each subject through the online platforms. If pupils have specific questions, these should be directed to their class teacher.
Kind regards
Mrs Wilson, Mr Creighton & Mr Marshall
