WEDNESDAY REFLECTION
Wednesday of the 6th Week in Easter-tide.
Tomorrow we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. Jesus leaves the Apostles and returns to His Father. It is now their task and responsibility to preach everywhere but with the assurance that the Holy Spirit will come upon them with powerful signs. Have you noticed that the Scriptures at Holy Mass since Easter Sunday have spoken less about Jesus and more about God the Holy Spirit? It is as if Jesus is gradually preparing the Apostles for their ministry without His physical appearance, But at the same time, He is encouraging them by telling them that He will be with them, “And behold I am with you all through the days that are coming, until the consummation of the world.” (Mt. 28.20 Knox Translation). We need to know and trust that He will be with us, also. How often have you heard the priest at Mass say, “….we, who are nourished by the Body and Blood of your Son, and filled with his Holy Spirit,….?”
While, at the present time, we cannot attend Holy Mass, watching regularly on Facebook or YouTube helps to remind us that we are united into the one body of the Church. The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is the One who helps us see our part and our role in the life of the Church….even when we are separated from our loved ones by social distance, or by death itself. That is to say, the Body of Christ cannot be diminished or destroyed by distance or death.
Let us Pray:
Heavenly Father, you have always been mindful
of the needs of your people and heard the cry of the poor. Reject not our prayers at this time, do not withhold your love, but let us sing your praises with joy as we put all our trust in you, for you live and reign, for ever and ever.
