Weekly Prayers
Monday 4 February 2019.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta often reminded people that each of us is unique, and each has our own contribution to make. Mother Teresa often said:
‘I cannot do what you do, and you cannot do what I do,
but together we can do something beautiful for God.’
Let’s pray that each of us makes good use of our talents:
Lord, show us how best to use the time and talents you have given each of us, and lead us to grow in appreciation of the contribution that others make.
May your Spirit empower us to work well with others and bring out the best in those with whom we share our lives.
Hail Mary………..
Tuesday 5 February 2019
Today we pray for vocations to the priesthood.
Lord Jesus Christ,
you promised always to give your Church shepherds,
in faith we know that you will look after us.
Trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the Church,
we pray you raise up sacred ministers from your people,
that the sacrifice in which you give your body and blood
may be daily renewed in the world until we come to that kingdom
where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
In our trust of God, we pray that God will look after us and we say together.
Our Father…
Wednesday 6 February 2019.
Our calling is first and foremost to love God with all our heart, mind and soul. We are then called to love others and doing so requires us to open our hearts and minds.
In Philippians 2 we are told that in our relationships with one another, we have to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus. We are to do nothing out of selfish ambition. In humility we are to value others above ourselves, not looking to our own interests but to the interests of others.
In order to do so, our hearts have to be filled with God’s love and compassion. Our minds have to be set on putting the needs of others above our own.
The words of an old hymn say,
May the mind of Christ my Saviour
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.
Let us seek to have the mindset of Christ.
Thursday 7 February 2019.
Today, we think about the blessing which God has given us and how fortunate we are in our lives.
Thank-you Lord, for everything you have given us;
the things we sometimes take for granted such as water, food and shelter.
Please help us, during this day, to pray for and support those for whom life is a daily struggle for survival. Help us to be generous in our prayers and in our charity.
Hail Mary…
