National Writing Acclaim for St Ninian’s High School Pupil Holly Edgar

Congratulations to Holly Edgar (6a1) who was one of 7 national winners of the ‘What’s your Story?’ programme run the Scottish Book Trust. On Monday 8 October Holly and her peers took part in the #whatsthestory showcase which celebrated their  writing and illustration at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh.

This all started for Holly when she successfully applied in October 2017.  The programme involved taking part in a workshop at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh where she took part in a series of workshops for example learning about the different types of publications, how to use history and information in your writing, researching historical archives.

Holly also attended a residential camp at Scotland’s Creative Writing Centre, Moniak Mhor, near Inverness.  There she was mentored by young adult author Laura Lam who gave her tips on how to get published, how to improve your writing and planned the showcase event.

In June 2018, Holly and her peers organised this year’s ‘StoryCon’, Scotland’s biggest creative writing and illustration conference for 13-19 year olds where different authors and experts ran workshops for nearly 200 teenagers from across Scotland.  It was a chance for the young people to meet, share ideas and interests and be inspired by Holly and the rest of the What’s your Story? participants.

At the showcase event on Monday 8 October Holly had the opportunity to share her work with an audience of professional authors, publishers, teachers, family and friends.
