Weekly Prayers
Wednesday 30 May 2018.
Today, our theme for our prayer is vocations. We believe that we are all called by God to live a life which will use our God-given talents and gifts. Our gifts and talents are different and it is this difference which makes us the individual creation of God which we are.
Lord, I thank You for the gifts You have given me, especially for life, love, family and friends.
Help me to know myself better and to know my talents, as I pray, study and decide on my life’s work.
Help me to see and understand the path you open for me. Help me choose a life’s work which will be in response to my potential and your love for me.
If I am being invited to follow You as a priest, brother, sister, give me a generous heart to respond to your challenging call and the strength to follow You wherever You lead me.
Amen.
Our Father……
Thursday 31 May 2018.
Today is the Feast of the Visitation. Our Lady, having been told by the angel Gabriel that she had been chosen to bear the Son of God, went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who herself was pregnant with John the Baptist.
The scene is beautiful: As Mary greets her cousin, the baby leaps in Elizabeth’s womb, and Elizabeth cries out in the words that make up the second sentence of the Hail Mary “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb!” Mary, overflowing with joy herself, responds with the words: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.
The Church marks today as a ‘Day for Life’ and asks us to consider the great gift of life which God has given us. It is a day to thank him for this gift but also to pray that all life is respected and to commit ourselves to work for equality for all, support to the poor and the weak, protection for life in the womb and at all stages in life.
Let us ask for Our Lady’s help in all we do, as we say together……
Hail Mary….
Friday 1 June 2018.
On Monday we begin our new timetable which is another important landmark for our pupils as they progress through our school. Today, we pray for them.
God of Light and Truth,
thank you for giving me
a mind that can know
and a heart that can love.
Help me to keep learning every day of my life,
for all knowledge leads to you.
Let me be aware of your presence
in all things and at all times.
Encourage me when work is difficult
and when I am tempted to give up;
encourage me when my brain seems slow
and the way forward is difficult.
Grant me the grace to put my mind to use
exploring the world you have created,
confident that in you there a wisdom
that is real. Amen.
Hail Mary….
